Job description

An innovative recycling plant located on the Dolphin Coast, KZN, is seeking a local Extrusion Operator with experience in plastic recycling, the plastic industry, or food packaging to play a pivotal role in their journey into the African recycling market. As a KZN-based, bilingual (Zulu & English) Extrusion Operator, you will be part of the growing team at the new plant in Ballito.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Operating and maintaining equipment to produce quality products safely and efficiently, ensuring on-time completion of production orders according to shift and daily targets.
  2. Setting up and operating machines following SOPs.
  3. Documenting production details and addressing product, process, and machine issues.
  4. Ensuring products meet quality standards and adjusting machine settings as needed.
  5. Safely starting up and shutting down equipment.
  6. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment following 5S standards.
  7. Reporting quality issues, raw material problems, and equipment breakdowns to the shift supervisor promptly.
  8. Controlling and recording all production sheets for traceability.
  9. Conducting visual and computer-based quality inspections.
  10. Participating in first-line maintenance and machine cleaning.
  11. Reporting risks related to Quality and Food Safety Management.
  12. Following all Quality, Food Safety, Environmental, and Health and Safety procedures.
  13. Performing additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications include:

  1. Minimum of 5 years' technical experience in manufacturing, specifically in plastic recycling, the plastic industry, or food packaging.
  2. Preferably completed skilled worker training in a technical profession (e.g., machine fitter, mechanic, machine operator, plastics processor).
  3. Experience working with conveyor belts and automated processes.
  4. Forklift license is an advantage.
  5. Computer literacy.
  6. Thorough understanding of Health and Safety practices.
  7. High cleanliness standards and adherence to 5S principles.
