A leading telecommunications company is seeking a Regulatory Strategist to oversee digital regulatory strategy within Vodacom. Qualifications

Role Purpose/Business Unit:

To shape and oversee Vodacom’s regulatory strategy in the digital and technological domain. To advocate for policies that support Vodacom’s ambitions to become a leading Digital TechCo while ensuring compliance with digital policies, data privacy, cybersecurity regulations and emerging technology frameworks.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Develop and lead the implementation of Vodacom’s digital regulatory strategies and implementation plans.
  • Analyse proposed policies, laws, regulations and codes to assess their impact on Vodacom’s digital services, revenues and business models.
  • Prepare Company submissions to the appropriate policy and regulatory bodies such as ICASA, DTPS and other authorities.
  • Provide digital regulatory guidance to relevant internal stakeholders within the Company i.e. BU’s, EXCO and Board.
  • Formulate and drive digital regulatory compliance throughout the Company
  • Provide regulatory digital support to Company strategy and risk mitigation initiatives
  • Engage with and influence external digital regulatory stakeholders including but not limited to ICASA, ComCom, etc.
  • Engage with key Vodacom and Vodafone stakeholders on digital regulatory issues including Strategy and Business Development as well as Digital business functions
  • Serve on various enterprise technical regulatory councils and advisory panels (locally and internationally)
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • 3-Year Diploma/Degree in light current electrical engineering or similar qualification
  • 8 - 10 years’ relevant experience in regulatory/technology function of which at least 5 years must be in a management function
  • Experience in digital transformation, data privacy or cybersecurity regulation is highly desirable
  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification will be an advantage.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience :

  • Sound technical knowledge (engineering, economic, engineering, commercial, legal)
  • Exceptional analytical skills to synthesize complex regulatory information and formulate strategic proposals.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead in a cross functional/matrix environment in highly demanding circumstances
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate and respond to rapidly changing regulatory environments.
