Start date: 1st July 2025

Remuneration package: Max R50 000 per month. No pension or medical aid.

Job Purpose

  • To provide overall direction and alignment to the work of the OD Union. Together with the ODU staff team, work with the OD Committee (ODC), sub-committees, and branches to coordinate and support their activities and objectives.

Job profile and requirements

  • An OD with good knowledge of the school, its founding principles, values, and ethos.
  • A capable manager and team leader with experience leading medium-sized organizations or projects, preferably with volunteer organizations.
  • Energetic and passionate about the school.
  • A 'people person' able to communicate effectively across the school's spectrum, including ODs, Council, the Executive, teachers, scholars, and parents.
  • Innovative in approach and able to lead the organization strategically.
  • A good organizer, administrator, and mediator when needed.
  • Will work closely with the ODC and report to the Chairman.

Job Description

  1. Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the ODU aligned with the school's core values and ethos.
  2. Coordination: Liaise with sub-committee Chairs, identify support needs, and contribute to sub-committee work.
  3. Management & Protocols: Define and ensure adherence to standards and practices, lead the staff team effectively, and ensure HR and governance procedures are followed.
  4. Collaboration with School Leadership: Establish relationships with key decision-makers, be a voice in school decisions affecting ethos, and possibly serve on the Council or School’s Executive.
  5. Communication & Outreach: Manage communication platforms like the OD magazine, newsletters, and social media to keep ODs informed and engaged.
  6. Fundraising and Revenue Support: Support fundraising efforts, develop strategies, and ensure the Bursary Fund is managed effectively.
  7. Financial Management: Oversee finances, monitor income and expenditure, and report regularly to the ODC.
  8. Alumni Engagement & Community Building: Maintain relationships with ODs worldwide, coordinate events, and serve as an ambassador for the ODU and school.
  9. Event Planning & Coordination: Organize alumni events, reunions, and milestone celebrations to strengthen ties.
  10. Database Management: Ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of the ODU database, complying with POPIA legislation.
  11. Talent Scouting: Identify and invite ODs with skills and energy to contribute, focusing on engaging younger ODs.
  12. Mentorship: Support mentorship programs, facilitate internships, and career guidance initiatives.
  13. OD Bursary Fund: Ensure the fund provides bursaries within its financial capabilities.
