This senior strategic leadership role is responsible for leading and implementing strategies for two support directorates: Properties & Services and Information & Communications Technology, focusing on:
Properties and Services
- Governance of the physical environment, including grounds, boundaries, conservation areas, and heritage sites.
- Oversee cost-effective maintenance strategies for living and learning environments.
ICT
- Leading the transformation to digitized platforms and tools for Teaching & Learning, Research, Administration, and Operations.
- Monitoring ICT value delivery and proposing improvements for cost efficiency and sustainability.
- Ensuring ICT services are fit-for-purpose across the institution.
Job Description
KPA 1) Govern & Lead the Infrastructure & Technology Portfolio
- Shape the strategic direction of the institution.
- Govern policy implementation as per Council / Senate decisions.
- Enhance the institution’s reputation through networks and partnerships.
- Provide leadership and guidance to units under your responsibility.
- Participate in executive and governance committees.
- Manage leadership resources according to the organizational structure.
- Track progress against strategic plans.
KPA 2) Lead Institutional ICT Strategy
- Develop and review ICT strategies aligned with UFH’s goals.
- Approve structures, resources, and systems implementation.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders on strategy design.
- Conduct regular strategic reviews.
- Report on strategy implementation to senior management.
KPA 3) Financial Planning & Budgeting
- Perform long-term financial planning.
- Allocate resources based on portfolio needs.
- Approve financial strategies and budgets.
- Exercise budget control and oversee large expenditures.
- Monitor cash flow and report on financial status.
KPA 4) Organizational Leadership
- Plan leadership development and succession.
- Manage talent recruitment, performance, and development.
- Report on leadership development initiatives.
KPA 5) Develop Strategic Relationships
- Participate in key policy and decision-making bodies.
- Engage with industry and government stakeholders.
- Represent the institution at industry forums.
KPA 6) Governance of Properties & Infrastructure
- Develop strategies for physical infrastructure.
- Oversee building, grounds, and boundary management.
- Ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
- Engage stakeholders for infrastructure projects.
- Manage resources for long-term sustainability.
KPA 7) ICT Governance & Digital Transformation
- Lead ICT and digital transformation initiatives.
- Stay updated on ICT legislation and best practices.
- Govern ICT strategy, resources, and budgets.
- Ensure cybersecurity and compliance.
- Promote emerging technologies.
- Monitor and report on ICT initiatives.
Inherent Criteria
- Master’s degree in a relevant field; Doctoral degree preferred.
- Membership with a recognized professional body (e.g., ECSA, SACPCMP, PMI).
- Minimum 12 years’ experience, including 10 years in Built Environment or Digital Technologies, with 5 years at senior management level.
- Proven project management experience.
- Extensive knowledge in infrastructure maintenance, environment management, SHE, sanitation, and safety compliance.
- Knowledge of ICT strategies, including 4IR technologies, ERP systems, sustainability, and project management principles.
