Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in commissioning management for EPCs or IPPs in renewable energy.
- Proven track record in utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS projects.
- Willingness to be site-based in the Northern Cape on a rotation or full-time basis.
Responsibilities
- Manage, plan, and execute commissioning activities for PV, BESS, substation, and associated infrastructure.
- Review and implement commissioning procedures, schedules, and QA/QC documentation across EPC scope.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractor commissioning teams and OEM representatives.
- Interface with construction, QA/QC, engineering, HSE, and Eskom grid integration teams.
- Lead functional testing, pre-commissioning, and energisation of HV and LV systems.
- Oversee SCADA, protection relays, control systems integration and testing.
- Ensure full compliance with Eskom grid code, NRS standards, and safety regulations.
- Prepare and submit commissioning reports, punch lists, and handover documentation.
- Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of technical issues during commissioning.

An international EPC contractor is executing the Avondale segment of a landmark hybrid power project in the Northern Cape, combining 115MW DC Solar PV, 35MW / 140MWh BESS, and a full substation + overhead line scope. This utility-scale project is part of the RMIPPPP and scheduled for COD in 2025. We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead the commissioning phase on-site, ensuring all systems are tested, verified, and handed over in line with Eskom grid compliance and project milestones.
- Manage, plan, and execute commissioning activities for PV, BESS, substation, and associated infrastructure.
- Review and implement commissioning procedures, schedules, and QA/QC documentation across EPC scope.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractor commissioning teams and OEM representatives.
- Interface with construction, QA/QC, engineering, HSE, and Eskom grid integration teams.
- Lead functional testing, pre-commissioning, and energisation of HV and LV systems.
- Oversee SCADA, protection relays, control systems integration and testing
- Ensure full compliance with Eskom grid code, NRS standards, and safety regulations.

- Ensure project commissioning timelines are met in line with final energisation and COD dates.
- 8+ years of experience in commissioning management for EPCs or IPPs in the renewable energy, power, or industrial sectors.
- Proven track record delivering utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS projects in South Africa or similar grid environments.
- In-depth knowledge of HV/LV electrical systems, grid integration, protection testing, and SCADA protocols.
- Experience overseeing commissioning on substation builds, line bays, and Eskom interfaces.
- Excellent stakeholder coordination skills, including OEMs, contractors, and grid operators.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, FAT/SAT procedures, and control logic.
- Willingness to be site-based in the Northern Cape on a rotation or full-time basis.
