Job description

Job Description

The Environmental Scientist develops environmental outputs through various stages of the project, undertakes coordination, and carries out environmental studies as part of the project team. Performs specific and routine environmental tasks involving surveys and monitoring, guiding Graduate Engineers/Scientists and providing reporting input to specialist leads.

Responsibilities include managing Public Participation/Stakeholder Engagement, contributing to technical proposals, developing EIA/ESIA reports by analyzing environmental data, and ensuring high-quality report content by integrating survey inputs and specialist studies within project timelines.

The role requires applying legislative knowledge, participating in interdisciplinary reviews, working on detailed assignments involving surveys, specifications, sketches, diagrams, models, reports, and tender documents. The Environmental Scientist identifies discrepancies, proposes solutions, and coordinates with other disciplines to meet project budgets and schedules.

Maintaining and developing technical skills to ensure environmental reporting complies with client and authority requirements is essential. The role also involves coordinating with authorities for environmental approvals and participating in client meetings to discuss project requirements and defend work.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Arts, or Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional registration as a Scientist with SACNASP and EAP with EAPASA.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
