Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Research Assistant to support environmental science projects in Paarl. You will assist senior scientists with field sampling, data collection, and laboratory analyses to address environmental challenges and conservation efforts.

This role offers exposure to diverse research activities, opportunities to learn experimental setups, and a collaborative team environment in the Western Cape region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or related field.
• Research or laboratory experience is advantageous.
• Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques and lab analyses.
• Proficiency in data entry and basic data analysis using Excel.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team, often outdoors.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and execution of field sampling for environmental monitoring.
• Perform lab analyses on soil, water, and air samples.
• Collect and manage environmental data ensuring accuracy.
• Operate and maintain field and lab equipment per safety procedures.
• Conduct literature reviews and help prepare research reports.
• Collaborate with the team on Paarl-based projects.
