Introduction

We are seeking to employ a highly experienced Environmental Officer with a strong and mature personality. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, implementing sustainable practices, and promoting environmental stewardship within the organization. This role involves conducting environmental monitoring, audits, risk assessments, and developing environmental management plans. The candidate should have a proven track record with extensive experience of more than 4 years in completed projects, particularly within the Construction and Manufacturing industries.

The role requires an individual who can optimize project efficiency, think strategically, and work closely with operations. All departments depend heavily on this position, requiring a competent individual knowledgeable in construction matters.

The Environmental Officer must be diligent and hardworking, as the job can be strenuous at times.

The individual should have a sound understanding of frameworks and standards such as ISO 14001 to manage environmental impacts and enhance sustainability.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ensure compliance with ISO 14001 standards (if applicable).
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure adherence to environmental regulations, permits, and client requirements.
• Identify environmental risks, investigate incidents, and implement mitigation measures including pollution control and habitat protection.
• Oversee site-specific waste management plans, manage water usage, stormwater, air quality, dust, and noise levels.
• Facilitate training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs to promote environmental responsibility.
• Collaborate with project teams and subcontractors to integrate environmental considerations into construction activities.
• Support rehabilitation efforts to restore disturbed areas post-construction according to client requirements.
• Assist with site shutdown procedures.
• Contribute to maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
• Assist with drafting and implementing task-specific risk management documentation.
• Assess and approve contractor health and safety documentation, guiding contractors as needed.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum qualification of a National Diploma in Environmental Management (NQF 6) or a BA/BSc in Environmental Management (NQF 7).
• At least 5 years of hands-on work experience.
• Proven track record with more than 4 years of completed projects as an Environmental Officer.
• Provide an updated CV, certified copies of qualifications, and a valid registration certificate.
