Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Microbiologist to join its environmental monitoring team in Mahikeng. You will perform laboratory testing on water, soil and air samples, analyze results, and contribute to reports that support environmental management and public health initiatives.

The role requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology or a related field, practical lab experience, aseptic techniques, and familiarity with quality control standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related life science field.
• Practical experience in a microbiology laboratory, performing various analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of microbial identification methods, aseptic techniques, and common laboratory instrumentation.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and quality control standards in microbiological testing.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Effective communication skills for reporting and collaborating with team members in Mahikeng.

Responsibilities

• Conduct microbiological analyses on diverse environmental samples (water, soil, air, food) to detect and quantify microbial contaminants.
• Perform culture-based methods, molecular techniques, and biochemical tests as required for microbial identification and characterization.
• Interpret test results, identify significant findings, and report data accurately and promptly according to established protocols.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, prepare culture media, and ensure compliance with all safety and quality assurance procedures.
• Assist in the investigation of microbial contamination incidents and recommend corrective actions.
• Contribute to the development and validation of new microbiological testing methods.
