The position provides leadership and technical expertise to achieve EHS legal compliance and corporate goals for EHS performance and ensures compliance with EHS policies and applicable regulations through partnership with all functions & local management in SA.
Develop and deliver effective global and local policies, procedures, auditing, training, communications, and educational materials to promote increased understanding, appreciation and adherence to safe operating practices throughout the workplace to ensure compliance with Kellanova standards and government regulations.
The position is full time based at Kellanova Springs plant. One day a month requires travel to the Head office in Woodmead for EHS responsibilities to ensure compliance.
The EHS team consists of a full time EHS business partner.
Working in a manufacturing facility that will require working more than standard hours and working on different shifts at various times. The incumbent is required to work effectively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment. Understands and meets internal and external business needs with professionalism and a sense of urgency. Must be able to balance conflicting priorities and still provide the organization with clear direction and focus. The work assignments may include shift work in a noisy and dusty environment.
Based on the knowledge and expertise of the incumbent, there is opportunity to be part of the EHS global audit team which will require travel to other sites within AMEA to conduct EHS global audits. Opportunity exists to represent the AMEA EHS region in the global Community of practice (COP) leading or being part of various programs i.e. Management systems, audit, Systems etc.

Develops and leads plant specific environmental, health and safety strategies to achieve key performance goals. Sets budgets and ensures adherence thereto. Identify and prioritize SA environmental, health and safety plan requirements.
Leads the EHS team to ensure legal, global and site policy compliance in all aspects of EHS. Establish, develop and review policies to maintain and manage comprehensive environmental, health and safety services for the Springs Plant, safeguarding all personnel and Company assets. Drives the EHS Centre of Excellence (COE) to ensure phase progression in the KWS journey for the Springs site. Support all KWS Pillars in all elements. Prepares sites for all relevant global and external audits (EHS, GRC, DEKRA, DOL), compiles action plans following audit recommendations, and drives the implementation thereof to ensure completion. Conducts internal site audits between external audits to ensure compliance and in preparation for external audits. Provides professional leadership to manufacturing, maintenance, quality, R&D, planning and project teams to ensure operational health & safety specifications are in line with latest legislation.
Forms part of Regional Security team and appointed as Business Security Coordinator (BSC) for the site. Leads the Security contracting teams to ensure legal and policy compliance in all aspects of security management. Manages and coordinates the on-site Security Company. Analyses possible risks and proactively sets systems in place to eliminate such. Ensures that all security global and regional standards are complied with. Conducts annual security assessment to ensure gaps are identified and actions plans are implemented to drive closure. Actively drive security incidents to understand RCA and implement CA and PA. Conduct global security training (food defense) for local security contracting company. Drive monthly security meetings with security contractors.
Ensures compliance with South Africa Legislation relating to EHS on local, provincial and national levels. Participates actively and contributes effectively as a part of the Local incident management team (LIMT). Ensure compliance with EHS Global and site policies, procedures and standards.
Manages labour relations by: Ensuring that all employees are full conversant with IR procedures and policy. Instilling a culture of resolving employee relations issues through informal dispute resolution procedures. Ensuring that formal disciplinary cases are properly prepared and conducted. Ensure effective management and application of the performance management process. Assess manpower requirements and develop, implement and monitor succession planning principles. Plans appropriate employee training and development, in order to ensure the continued and smooth operation of the department.
A Relevant Tertiary qualification, coupled with a minimum of 5 years relevant management experience in an FMCG environment. Candidate minimum qualifications: Effective communication (both written and verbally) and interpersonal skills.
Should possess strong leadership, training, problem solving, and decision making skills. Ability to prioritize effectively and serve multiple task, programs or projects. Ability to operate under matrix structure with cross-functional / regional team members. Proficiency with computers, and computer software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Sufficient / in depth, knowledge of: SAP, MS Excel and PowerPoint, a solid understanding of Continuous Improvement practices and ongoing productivity improvement programmes, security standards, policies and procedures, fire safety management programme and local legislations and fire prevention standards.
