Job summary

A leading company in environmental consulting is seeking a Senior Level Environmental Assessment Practitioner to join their team in the mining sector. The role involves independent environmental assessments, project management, and compliance with local legislation and international best practices. Key Role :

A Senior Level Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) is required to complement the Environmental Planning and Advisory team within the mining sector.

The candidate will primarily undertake an independent environmental assessment role on large-scale mining projects locally and internationally, requiring approvals in accordance with local legislation and international best practices.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Delivering Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Basic Assessments, Environmental Management Plans, and Compliance Auditing projects and/or Environmental and Social Due Diligence assessments.
  • Managing local and international (Africa) projects.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders.
  • Leading Public Participation Processes.
  • Project Management.
  • Managing Specialist Teams.
  • Preparing proposals related to the above.
  • Working both independently and as part of a team.

Contributing to SHEQ risk identification and driving processes to achieve Zero Harm.

Promoting the company's values and maintaining a safe working environment at all times.

Qualifications and Experience Required :
  • An Honours or higher degree in a relevant environmental sciences discipline.
  • A Masters degree with a research component is preferable.
  • Minimum of 5 years' work experience; up to 7 years' experience may be preferred.
  • Project experience in the mining sector.
  • Knowledge of International Standards such as IFC Performance Standards, AfDB Safeguards, and Equator Principles.
Key Competencies and Skills :
  • Between 4-7 years' experience in ESIA, Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Management Plans, and Compliance Auditing projects or ESDD consulting.
  • Experience with mining projects is required.
  • EAPASA registration is mandatory.
  • Good knowledge of South African environmental legislation, especially MPRDA requirements.
  • Experience in industrial, renewable energy, or infrastructure sectors is beneficial.
  • Understanding of broader environmental and social issues (air quality, waste management, ecological, social, etc.).
  • Ability to travel within Sub-Saharan Africa as needed.
  • Drivers License.
  • Strong technical report writing skills in fluent English.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work independently and pay attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Preference for candidates who can read, write, and converse in French.
  • Candidates with published scientific papers in relevant subjects are encouraged to apply.
