Role Overview

To assist the Compliance & Licensing team to manage compliance with existing environmental and other regulatory authorizations for waste management facility operations and to give input into the processes to obtain further authorizations.

Key Responsibilities

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Undertake internal environmental monitoring and arrange and facilitate external environmental monitoring
  • Review and interpret environmental monitoring results and suggest mitigation measures to be put in place to reporting line
  • Assist with and enforce implementation of the requirements of the environmental authorizations at waste management facilities
  • Undertake internal audits of environmental authorisations
  • Provide input for and review external audits of environmental authorisations.
  • Undertake regular site inspections and provide guidance to operational teams regarding environmentally safe and sustainable practices
  • Assist to appoint and manage specialist consultants where external assistance is required to manage compliance with requirements of authorizations / implement environmental monitoring:
  • Draft scopes of work for appointments
  • Request and review proposals
  • Handle appointment administration and provide input into contractual agreements
  • Guide consultants to provide expected deliverables
  • Facilitate site access
  • Consolidate and provide site information to consultants
  • Assist with arranging environmental management committee (EMC) requirements:
  • Appointing an independent chairperson
  • Book venues for EMC meetings
  • Prepare presentations and present audit report findings, environmental monitoring results and new site developments to EMC

REPORTING AND REVIEWING

  • Review reports submitted by consultants and third parties and provide comments to reporting line
  • Provide inputs and compile information for environmental and other specialist studies related to projects in the division

CONTRACTUAL AND BUDGETARY PLANNING/INPUT

  • Providing input into contracts with consultants; and
  • Ensure alignment with the environmental monitoring and compliance budget and provide monthly reconciliations and forecasts

AD HOC

  • Any other reasonable ad hoc duty as required or requested by management
  • It should be noted that individuals may need to expand their roles / scope to cover the workload of other employees in times of high workloads or individuals who may be absent from work. This is the sole discretion of management

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • BSc Environmental Management qualification or similar
  • Environmental consulting, ECO and/or operational waste management experience
  • Experience in the waste management related authorisation projects advantageous
  • Strong Report Writing and Review Skills
  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation
