Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Environmental Civil Engineer to join their team in Upington, Northern Cape . This role focuses on integrating environmental considerations into civil engineering projects, ensuring sustainable development practices are adhered to. You will be involved in assessing environmental impacts, designing mitigation measures, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of ecological principles, environmental management systems, and their application in civil infrastructure projects, contributing to a team dedicated to responsible and sustainable development in a unique ecological region.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and develop Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for civil projects.
Design and implement solutions for pollution control, waste management, and remediation of contaminated sites.
Advise on water quality management, erosion control, and habitat protection related to construction activities.
Ensure projects comply with all relevant national and provincial environmental legislation and regulations.
Collaborate with environmental scientists, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
Monitor environmental performance during construction and provide recommendations for improvements.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Engineering or a related environmental science degree.
Professional registration with ECSA is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental consulting or environmental engineering within civil projects.
Knowledge of South African environmental legislation (e.g., NEMA, MPRDA).
Familiarity with environmental modeling and monitoring techniques.
Strong report writing skills and experience in stakeholder engagement.
