Cape Town: My client, a recognised leader in environmental, green building and social intelligence consulting, is seeking an accomplished Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAPASA Registered – non negotiable) with proven expertise in managing complex, large-scale projects across South Africa, ideally in the renewable energy sector
Duties & Responsibilities
EAPASA REGISTRATION IS NON-NEGOTIABLE
Purpose of the Role: To provide leadership to the Environmental Services (ES) Team, ensuring quality delivery of projects, compliance with legislation, and strategic growth of services. The role is accountable for managing high-profile client portfolios, advancing innovation in environmental solutions, and enhancing the company’s reputation in the marketplace. The position also contributes to long-term organisational growth, client partnerships, and industry representation.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee the ES Team Project Portfolio, ensuring deadlines, quality, deliverables, and budgets are met
- Lead Environmental Services, Bird & Bat Monitoring, and SDOD Teams
- Manage permitting and compliance processes for large-scale EIA and ECO projects
- Prepare proposals, tenders, scopes of work, and maintain company registrations on tender databases
- Drive efficiencies in operational processes, ensuring consistent improvement in systems and delivery
- Expand ecological assessments, monitoring services, and regenerative design approaches, while developing new service offerings
- Ensure compliance with NEMA and all relevant SEMAs, as well as international standards such as the Equator Principles
- Provide technical oversight on environmental auditing, environmental management programmes, and construction management
- Strengthen client relationships, ensuring professional management of complex projects with international clients
- Represent the company at industry forums such as IAIA, enhancing visibility and credibility in the sector
- Develop and deliver environmental training programmes to strengthen skills and knowledge
- Support recruitment, coaching, and development of project staff
- Provide operational and logistical support across company functions
Criteria
- Relevant Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related discipline
- Professional registration with EAPASA (non-negotiable) as well as SACNASP registration preferred
- Minimum of 4–5 years’ successful private sector experience in EIAs and ECO projects, preferably in the renewable energy sector
- Solid understanding of NEMA and SEMAs, Equator Principles, and renewable energy project challenges and opportunities
- Demonstrated knowledge of regenerative design and sustainability principles
- Strong technical background in environmental auditing, environmental management programmes, and environmental construction management
- Proven project management ability, able to manage complex projects, timelines, and scenarios with precision
- Skilled in cost tracking, financial oversight, and fee proposal preparation
- Strong people management capability with the ability to inspire, lead, and influence teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Senior leadership mindset with the ability to align projects and decisions to long-term organisational growth
- Confident, diplomatic communicator, able to constructively challenge and support executive decision-making
- Commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and delivery excellence
- High attention to detail and problem-solving ability with uncompromising quality standards
- Fluency in English with strong written and verbal communication skills; valid passport and ability to travel as required
