Main purpose of position

Currently we are looking for an Environmental & Social Manager in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our Environmental & Social Manager you will ensure that all Scatec projects deliver on their commitments and obligations in relation to environmental and social aspects. The position will predominantly focus on Sub Saharan Africa.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s Sustainability Policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Help ensure project compliance with the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards and lead dialogue with project lenders with respect to E&S discipline matters.
  • Lead development and coordination of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and execution on Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs).
  • Support appropriate execution of project related plans including but not limited to: Environmental and Social Management Plans, Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Ecological Management Plan, Occupational Health and Safety Plan, Waste Management Plan, Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan.
  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of different environmental and social commitments and activities required for project compliance.
  • Take the lead on initiating, developing, and implementing internal ESG projects across countries and business units.
  • Perform site visits and participate in team meetings with partners as required
  • Prepare presentation material and occasionally represent Scatec in external fora
Qualifications and competencies
  • University degree within social science, biology, resource economics or environmental/climate science
  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience with environmental and social risk management of infrastructure or energy projects, preferably with site implementation experience from hydro, wind and/or solar developments in Sub Saharan Africa, overseeing projects from origination phase through construction and into operations phase
  • Experience in project management, including leading small teams and working with senior stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of and practical experience working with international environmental and social standards including the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, livelihood restoration, resettlement and management at different levels
  • Experience in handling social conflicts
  • Knowledge in field gathering information at all levels
  • Experience from working abroad is an asset
