Job Description : To champion and enforce the implementation and compliance by all Nando's Feitoria factory employees to Nando's Feitoria Safety Standards and all relevant international and national (EOHSA) legal requirements.

Assure the safe operation of the Nando's Feitoria plant through the implementation and coordination of the SHE Management Systems, ensuring that the plant remains compliant with the clients' requirements, SHE policies, standards, procedures & relevant legislations.

Minimum Requirements :

1. Diploma or B / Tech in Health & Safety, Environmental or Risk Control qualification.
2. NOSA would be advantageous.
3. 3 - 4 years experience of working in a manufacturing / office environment with a proven track record in Health, Safety & Environment.
4. Minimum 4 years hands-on experience working as the Safety Officer in a manufacturing environment.
5. 1-2 years leadership experience and ISO / series knowledge would be an added advantage.
6. 3 – 5 years FMCG / Manufacturing experience.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Safety & Legal Compliance : Ensure that the plant adheres to all applicable clauses of OHSA, local by-laws and company safety regulations, policies, and standards.
2. Maintain a register of all SHE Legal Statutes and ensure changes in legislation are filed, tracked, and actioned upon.
3. Ensure the creation, maintenance, review, and updating of SHE Policies, standards, and procedures, integrating SHE into all activities.
4. Establish and participate in the SHE Committee in accordance with the OHS Act.
5. Ensure that SHE incident investigations are conducted.
6. Assist HODs with the establishment of SHE related investment and operational budgets.
7. Contribute to the implementation of safety concepts in construction and / or installation projects, ensuring compliance with company SHE requirements.
8. Ensure good communication and regular interaction with all departments on OHS issues.
9. Ensure an adequate program exists to monitor and report on the quality of water and air (including effluent discharge).
10. Assume responsibility for site security, access control, and CCTV management.
11. Research and implement new materials handling processes.
12. Evaluate, assess, and alter safety policies and procedures.
13. Maintain fire detection and fire suppression systems.

Inspections, Risk Assessments & Reports :

1. Conduct risk assessments of all plant machinery, processes, and ancillary equipment.
2. Maintain records of accident statistics in accordance with legal procedures for management and central safety committee.
3. Pile and submit accurate Key Reports using KPI / BIC reports and inform the Factory Manager of any serious safety concerns.
4. Comply with Nando's Feitoria reporting and prepare relevant documentation for submission to the authorities as per OHSA.
5. Conduct a comprehensive 6-monthly SHE inspection of the entire premises and submit a written report.
6. Collect and report on monthly and annual SHE statistics and KPIs.
7. Track incident metrics and apply findings.
8. Lead injury and incident inquiries and evaluations.
9. Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies.

Training, External Relations, Safety Action Roadmaps :

1. Conduct or facilitate safety training (OHSA and legislation, Operator, first aid, hazardous chemicals, electrical training, etc.) to embed a culture of safety in the team.
2. Ensure adherence to agreed Safety Action Plans and deadlines as per internal and external Management Safety Audits.
3. Ensure all required internal and external safety audits are carried out as per agreed schedules.
4. Provide advice, guidance, and support to the Plant on SHE related legislation.
5. Ensure staff awareness of legal obligations relating to SHE Risks.
6. Supervise and help to organize, equip, and train specialized groups dealing with SHE, such as Fire team and First aid team.
7. Identify SHE training needs for the site, develop a SHE Training Matrix, and ensure trainings are completed.
8. Organize continuous SHE education and training programs for all employees.

Food Security & Defense :

1. Coordinate the cross-functional food defense team.
2. Conduct risk assessment and vulnerability studies annually or as required.
3. Establish a food defense plan.
4. Provide food defense training for all employees.

Environmental :

1. Responsible for First Garment coordination.
2. Establish and head the company Sustainability Committee to monitor and report on power & water usage as well as waste management & recycling.
3. Implement and manage the site environmental monitoring program.
4. Oversee contractors and consultants providing environmental services.
5. Support the development of site compliance reports required in association with legislation.
6. Implement and verify the business environmental management system.
7. Partner with operational teams to support effective environmental risk management.
