Job description

Provide holistic and quality nursing care to residents on a daily basis.

Role and Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Care
    • Accurate nursing documentation based on observation & assessment of the resident daily.
    • Nursing care plan completion and implementation as per assessment needs of the resident.
    • Implement planned coordinated care by MDT.
    • Detailed assessment and treatment of ailments once reported, and referral thereafter as required.
    • Administration of medication.
    • Ensure instructions/orders given in doctor's rounds are implemented and documented.
    • Adhere to all nursing and general policies and procedures as per organisation and nursing department.
    • Ensure medical equipment is accounted for and in working order.
    • Utilise clinical judgement to refer and treat acutely ill/emergency residents.
    • Liaise and inform families when residents are unwell, non-compliant, or of any significant concerns.
    • Facilitate admission to hospital as required.
    • Supervise junior staff and assess residents regularly for possible clinical risks.
    • Accurate recordkeeping and documentation of risks, including photos.
    • Ensure residents and communal areas are hygienic and safe.
    • Ensure infection control procedures are utilised at all times, including PPE use.
  2. Staff Supervision / Teamwork
    • Accurate delegation of staff according to scope of practice.
    • Orientation of new staff.
    • Report and handle complaints from residents, staff, and family.
    • Ensure junior staff adhere to documentation and care policies.
    • Facilitate cohesive teamwork that provides quality care.
    • Performance management of junior staff as required.
    • Handle and resolve complaints.
  3. Administration and Financial Efficiency
    • Check all ward stock and medical equipment.
    • Ensure no expired stock in ward.
    • Log and report all central facilities requests (e.g., maintenance, transport) as per policy.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Diploma in Nursing.
  • Registered with SANC.
  • 3 years' nursing experience.
