The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
The role includes assessment, patient needs care, assisting during operations, and maintaining a sterile operating room environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Practice within scope of practice and assume responsibility for activities.
- Prepare the theatre, manage stock, and replenish supplies and instruments for procedures.
- Contribute to holistic patient care.
- Maintain aseptic techniques when opening packs and consumables.
- Use supplies and equipment safely, correctly, and economically to control costs.
- Handle equipment, instruments, stock, and medication competently and safely.
- Assist with patient positioning and transfer, ensuring risk prevention and management.
- Communicate effectively with patients about their care.
- Assist anesthetist during induction of anesthesia.
- Follow hospital standards for procedures.
- Ensure patients have appropriate nursing care plans.
- Communicate health status changes to healthcare practitioners.
- Maintain documentation compliance and record specimen details.
- Audit health records for compliance.
- Manage stock control, charging, and crediting appropriately.
- Maintain a safe, sterile, and medico-legally compliant environment.
- Follow safety laws and take responsibility for personal and professional conduct.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Project a positive professional image and foster good relationships with colleagues and management.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
- Enrolled Nurse qualification.
- Current registration with South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Minimum of 5 years as an enrolled nurse assistant.
- Post-operative nursing experience essential.
- Experience as a floor nurse and in anesthesia essential.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and patient safety.
- Knowledge of Infection Control & Prevention.
- Ability to anticipate team needs, demonstrating understanding of surgical procedures.
