Job summary

Stethoscope SA is seeking an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary to support direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in a Cape Town facility.

The role requires SANC registration, an Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary qualification and a solid background in aseptic technique, infection control, and patient safety. Flexibility in working hours and strong teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and have an Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years as an enrolled nurse assistant.
• Knowledge of sterilisation, disinfection and aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct or indirect nursing care under supervision of Registered Nurse.
• Adhere to SANC, DOH and National Core standards.
• Maintain aseptic technique and safe use of supplies and equipment.
• Assist with positioning and transfer of patients; support anaesthetist during induction of anaesthesia.
• Document and maintain health records and specimen logs.
• Promote patient care, safety and good public relations with patients and families.

Job description

Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary will be responsible for direct and/or in direct nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/ or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse.

The team member will perform nursing duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH) and National Core standards.

• Practice patient care according to his/her Scope of Practice and assumes total responsibility for these activities.
• Contributes to the holistic care of patients.
• Maintain the principals of aseptic technique when opening packs and consumables.
• To help control patient and hospital costs through the correct, safe and economical use of supplies and equipment.
• Handle equipment, instruments, stock and medication safely and competently.
• Effective risk prevention and management when assisting with the positioning of the patient or transfer of the patient to and from the operating table
• Effective communication with patients regarding their care.
• To assist the anaesthetist during induction of anaesthesia
• Promotes and maintains good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors.
• Ensure proper evidence-based nursing care.
• Communicate with Health Care Practitioners regarding any change in health status.
• Compliance with documentation policy.
• Record and sign specimen registers
• Ongoing audit of health records to ensure compliance.
• Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed appropriately.
• Maintains a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards.
• Maintains a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act.

Requirements
