Job summary

Curro Kathu in Kathu, Northern Cape, seeks an English HL Foundation Phase Teacher (full-time) to commence duties in January 2027. The teacher will plan and deliver lessons, coordinate a range of subjects per the CURRO curriculum, and foster active learning among learners.

Applicants should hold a BEd and/or PGCE in foundation phase, with an honours degree advantageous, and have a minimum of two years’ foundation phase experience, CAPS knowledge, and strong communication, planning and assessment

Qualifications

• BEd and/or PGCE in foundation phase education, with an honours degree advantageous.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a foundation phase teacher.
• Knowledge of the CAPS curriculum.
• Proven facilitation, problem-solving and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach foundation phase per CURRO curriculum and coordinate subjects.
• Review, implement and adjust term plans; support revision and parent meetings.
• Manage the classroom design, rules and communications with learners and parents.
• Oversee assessments, rosters, revisions, moderation and interventions.
• Plan and manage homework per grade and monitor reading progress.
• Coordinate extramural activities and outings.

Curro is seeking to appoint a primary school foundation phase teacher at Curro Kathu in Kathu. The role involves teaching and coordinating a range of subjects as per the Curro curriculum for the foundation phase. The teacher is responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches.

Key performance areas

• Perform teaching duties, including planning lessons using modern-day tools and processes, setting up workbooks and measuring academic improvement and achievement
• Review, implement, monitor and adjust the term plan as necessary, including creating customised plans to support the class pace and available lessons as well as making provision for revision and parent and learning meetings
• Manage the classroom, including classroom design and set-up for optimal performance, disciplinary rules and communication with learners and parents
• Manage assessments, including assessment reviews, the assessment roster, revision packs, moderation and interventions
• Plan and manage homework per grade, including revisions and managing reading levels and progress
• Plan and manage extramural activities and outings

• BEd and/or PGCE in foundation phase education, with an honours degree advantageous
