English and Social Sciences Teacher (Grades 4 to 7)

• Reporting to: Departmental Head and Head of Academics

Position Summary:

St. Peter’s School is seeking a passionate and dedicated English and Social Sciences Teacher to join our dynamic teaching team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English and Social Sciences to learners in Grades 4 to 7, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring that each learner achieves their full potential in these subjects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Curriculum Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English and Social Sciences lessons that meet the requirements of the national curriculum and cater to the needs of all learners.
• Assessment and Evaluation: Design and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Classroom Management: Maintain a well-organized, disciplined, and stimulating learning environment.
• Individual Support: Provide additional support and intervention for learners who require extra help, ensuring that all learners have the opportunity to succeed.
• Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with parents, colleagues, and the school administration regarding learner progress and any issues that arise.
• Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in language and social sciences teaching.
• Extracurricular Activities: Support and participate in extracurricular activities and school events, fostering a well-rounded educational experience for learners.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field with a specialization in English and/or Social Sciences or equivalent qualification.
• Certification: Up-to-date registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) and Police clearance.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in teaching English and Social Sciences to Grades 4 to 7.
• Language Proficiency: Excellent command of English (both verbal and written).

• Pedagogical Expertise: Strong knowledge of teaching methodologies and best practices in English and Social Sciences education.
• Classroom Management: Ability to manage a diverse classroom effectively and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with learners, parents, and colleagues.
• Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
• Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of a dynamic school environment.
