Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Product Introduction Engineering Technician Team Leader for our Traxx Africa project based in Richards Bay.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Ensure the safety and productivity of all Engineering Technicians and staff on the designated site, including plant security.
  • Ensure that activities such as troubleshooting, modifications, and preventative maintenance are completed safely, on time, and within quality standards, while meeting availability and performance targets aligned with customer requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform troubleshooting, repairs, field modifications, and testing activities effectively.
  2. Lead the team in troubleshooting 23E locomotives, including investigation and repair during PI periods, pre-warranty, and commissioning.
  3. Conduct fleet checks via TCMS data analysis and physical inspections.
  4. Report deviations and register failures in the Failure Management database, including configuration data.
  5. Coordinate the helpdesk support for client operations.
  6. Execute testing and troubleshooting procedures to evaluate system performance and analyze failures.
  7. Adhere to all fleet maintenance, product introduction processes, procedures, and SOPs.
  8. Lead the implementation of field modifications as needed.
  9. Support technical investigations to improve locomotive reliability, availability, and performance.
  10. Identify and recommend preventative and corrective actions.
  11. Maintain effective communication within the troubleshooting team and support shift transitions.
  12. Provide technical support and coaching during preventative maintenance.
  13. Perform repairs on out-of-warranty locomotives due to vandalism or derailment upon customer request.
  14. Lead dynamic testing of locomotives (new and repaired).
  15. Coordinate contractors for repairs on-site if necessary.
  16. Contribute to feedback and experience sharing.
  17. Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and quality policies at all times.
  18. Ensure team members are equipped with PPE and comply with safety standards.
  19. Ensure team adherence to depot/site procedures and instructions.
  20. Enforce quality standards and 5S practices during locomotive repairs.
  21. Support the depot/site manager in managing NCRs and ensuring proper documentation.
  22. Log locomotive configurations in MAXIMO / GSI.
  23. Handle I-Forms, raise product issues, report incidents, and complete actions.
  24. Ensure all safety training and certifications are up-to-date.
  25. Collaborate with EHS and Quality teams to prioritize safety and quality.
  26. Ensure team safety and report unsafe acts or deviations.
  27. Coordinate tool usage and report tool status.

Leadership and Data Management:

  • Provide leadership, support, and motivation to team members.
  • Manage daily activities and team briefings.
  • Train new team members.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of work activities.
  • Maintain documentation and procedures at the correct revision levels.
  • Ensure test documentation and failure reports are complete and accurate.
  • Keep proper records of activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or B.Tech in Electrical/Electromechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical/electronic/pneumatic testing environments.
  • Knowledge of environment, health, and safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience in testing, fault finding, and repairs.
  • Proven experience with software on 23E locomotives.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with electrical, control, communication, and network systems.
  • Proficiency with relevant software tools related to the 23E locomotive.
