Job Requirements

An appropriate 3-year National Diploma in Engineering or relevant qualification; compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technician or submission for Professional registration as an Engineering Technician (proof of payment required). Registration with ECSA as an Engineering Technician must be obtained within 6 months of appointment. A minimum of 3 years relevant post-qualification technical (engineering) experience is required. A valid driving license (Code B or higher) is also necessary.

Key Performance Areas

  1. Render Technical Services
  • Assist engineers, technologists, and associates in field, workshop, and technical office activities.
  • Promote safety in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings, and procedures to incorporate new technology and produce technical designs with specifications for evaluation and approval.
  • Perform administrative functions and contribute to budgeting processes.
  • Compile and submit reports as required.
  • Contribute to the technical/engineering operational plan.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain databases.
  • Supervise technical personnel and manage assets.
  • Research and Development
    • Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated with new technologies and procedures.
    • Conduct research and literature studies to enhance expertise.
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders on engineering matters.

    Competencies

    • Technical support in pavement and geotechnical design for roads.
    • Procurement of road infrastructure materials.
    • Research on new products, specifications, and test methods.
    • Material quality control and management for road and bridge construction.
    • Knowledge of legal compliance, decision-making, teamwork, creativity, customer focus, and responsiveness.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, people management, planning, organizing, change management, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.

    Remuneration

    Grade A: R - R per annum; Grade B: R - R per annum; Grade C: R - R per annum. Salary depends on post-registration experience as per OSD guidelines. Remuneration packages include all service benefits, or benefits are funded/co-funded as per applicable policies.
