Job description

Job Purpose : Apply engineering knowledge and perform technical support associated with Bulk Metering, Embedded Generation, and Quality of Supply installations, network projects, reticulation diagnostics, and data analysis within the distribution jurisdiction of Breede Valley Municipality.

Duties :

  1. Prioritize work orders based on assets, maintenance category, and schedule frequency using the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  2. Allocate specific meter installation activities (new installations, condition assessments, upgrades, functional tests) to authorized service providers.
  3. Coordinate maintenance and installation activities (new installations, modifications, repairs) according to departmental procedures.
  4. Perform quality control inspections on electrical installations related to bulk service metering, power quality, and embedded generation, ensuring compliance with SANS 10142 and NRS 057.
  5. Monitor condition assessments of installations, network infrastructure, and monitoring equipment.
  6. Assess regulatory compliance for Small Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) proposals and existing installations to ensure adherence to policies and legislation.
  7. Conduct inspections to verify compliance with contractual agreements, specifications, and standards.
  8. Prioritize project tasks assigned by superiors.
  9. Perform site inspections to gather critical installation parameters.
  10. Develop concept plans for basic electrical engineering works.
  11. Plan maintenance schedules for Bulk Metering, Quality of Supply, and SSEG infrastructure projects.
  12. Coordinate maintenance of authorized service providers for bulk Current and Voltage Transformer installations at LV and MV levels.
  13. Program bulk metering and data acquisition equipment according to departmental parameters.
  14. Verify and calibrate meters through bench and onsite testing.
  15. Inspect residential and commercial SSEG and QoS systems for compliance with policies and legislation.
  16. Assign work orders to service providers with appropriate status updates.
  17. Review procedures and controls related to operational data management.
  18. Assess commissioning and decommissioning documents for completed installations.
  19. Compile monthly reports on network analytics, audits, safety inspections, and other relevant activities.
  20. Engage with stakeholders, including government, other municipalities, service providers, and property owners, on routine and complex issues.
  21. Prepare specifications for quotations and tenders following procurement procedures.
  22. Submit vehicle log sheets for authorization.
  23. Conduct incident investigations as per OHS Act and prepare reports on remedial actions.
