Engineering Manager, Trust and Safety Product (Remote)
Summary: The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Trust and Safety Product Team. This role involves managing an engineering team and collaborating with various stakeholders to execute complex projects focused on community protection, user safety, and regulatory compliance.
Team Focus: Building solutions to prevent attacks and abuse, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and working with stakeholders like Wikimedia Stewards, on-wiki admins, the Trust and Safety, Legal, Research, SRE, and Security teams.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a complex stakeholder environment, including internal teams and community members.
- Coach and mentor engineers, supporting their growth and development.
- Ensure timely delivery of projects by managing resources and schedules.
- Lead team processes and meetings to foster effective collaboration.
- Communicate proactively within and outside the team.
- Prioritize and triage bugs, incidents, and requests.
- Collaborate on long-term technical strategies and technology adoption.
- Assess task scope and problem severity to determine solutions.
Requirements:
- Experience leading or managing a full-stack engineering team.
- Experience building diverse, remote, and multinational teams.
- Proven impact across all engineering and product lifecycle stages.
- Ability to travel internationally 2-3 times per year.
- Availability to work overlapping with UTC to UTC-7 time zones.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience managing volunteer technical communities and open source projects.
- Knowledge of anti-abuse, security, and regulatory compliance on online platforms.
- Experience working with distributed international teams.
- Strong communication skills for technical discussions.
