The ideal candidate must possess a BEng or BSc in mechanical engineering or a similar technical qualification.

Experience in an engineering company, particularly with mechanical or structural design, is preferred. Proven leadership experience in senior design or engineering roles is essential.

Specialized experience in comminution equipment design (e.g., jaw crushers, cone crushers, SAG/ball mills, HPGRs) is advantageous. Candidates should have worked in equipment design, manufacturing, and field/service environments.

The role requires demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, interface with clients, and manage project timelines and budgets. Experience in the mining industry, especially with crushing, processing, or materials handling equipment, is preferred.

A strong technical background rooted in sound engineering principles is necessary. Proficiency in CAD software, including 3D modeling and drafting, is required. FEA experience is a plus. Familiarity with document and data management systems is also important.

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills are essential for effective communication of complex technical concepts.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of crushing equipment and systems to meet customer specifications and performance targets.
• Ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and compliant with quality standards and regulations.
• Oversee creation of 3D models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and perform FEA for structural validation.
• Maintain compliance with mining, safety, and engineering standards throughout the design process.
• Manage and develop a team of engineers and drafters.
• Handle multiple projects from concept to production, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
• Translate customer needs into effective engineering solutions that enhance product value and competitiveness.
• Support aftermarket and field teams with technical guidance and issue resolution.
• Commission new equipment to meet specifications and performance benchmarks.
• Ensure compliance with international and local standards such as ISO, ASME, CE, and SANS.
