Engineering Manager

My client, a leader in the metal and machinery industry, is looking for an Engineering Manager to join their team in Germiston. The successful individual will have strong management experience, with a solid capacity for leadership and motivating teams.

In addition, he / she will have an excellent understanding of hydraulics. The purpose of the role includes:

  • Providing the essential technical knowledge and engineering solutions for effective routine maintenance and repair services to all departments within the Group.
  • Providing leadership and management of the engineers in the Engineering Team.
  • Providing oversight and taking accountability for all the Engineering Departments (e.g.,)
  • Having awareness and understanding of legislative regulations in respect of Health and Safety (OHSA), Road Ordinance Regulations, Lifting equipment regulations (e.g., forklift trucks and gantry and truck-mounted cranes)
  • Providing constructive input with solving unique challenges in other departments.
Duties & Responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Project management
  2. Engineering quality control
  3. Involvement in the operational aspects of the business (being hands-on)
  4. Overseeing mechanical design and layout work
  5. Overseeing the production of drawings for manufacturing
  6. Overseeing routine and planned maintenance
  7. Liaising with various service providers
  8. Troubleshooting equipment breakdowns and facilitating repairs
  9. Ensuring efficiency and highest possible production levels
Desired Experience & Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc / B.Eng. / B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 – 10 years' experience in the maintenance or production environment
  • 10 years' experience in a leadership / management role
  • Excellent understanding of hydraulics
  • Competency in computer-aided engineering design and drawing (maintenance planning software)
  • Hands-on working experience in a maintenance or manufacturing environment
  • A Government Certificate of Competence - advantageous
  • Ability to work independently
