Job summary

Tiger Brands is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager responsible for implementing safety, engineering, and maintenance strategies across multiple plants. THE JOB AT A GLANCE

The Engineering Manager has the overall responsibility for executing the Tiger Brands Group Supply Chain Centre of Excellence safety, engineering, and maintenance strategies.

This includes ensuring factory safety compliance with the OSH Act, continuously improving equipment reliability, and maintaining all operational and support elements of the factory.

The Engineering Manager will lead performance improvement initiatives with Plant Managers and Maintenance Managers across four plants by implementing maintenance strategies aligned with business objectives.

They will guide the businesses through the Maintenance Pillar and facilitate discussions on repairs versus investments.

This role directly impacts manufacturing KPIs such as Safety and Health, Sustainability, Capacity Utilization, OEE, Continuous Improvement savings, and Conversion Cost.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure plant and machinery legal SHEQ compliance
  2. Progress SHE Pillar maintenance requirements
  3. Maintain safe plant equipment
  4. Manage utilities plant and ensure efficient utility use
  5. Manage engineering stores
  6. Ensure compliance with engineering & maintenance audits
  7. Adhere to maintenance SOPs
  8. Utilize DMS (CMMS) fully
  9. Implement maintenance best practices
  10. Governance of MECP PM Pillar implementation
  11. Develop and execute plant engineering improvement strategies
  12. Conform to focus maintenance KPIs
  13. Manage maintenance spend
  14. Develop maintenance budgets
  15. Lead engineering spares working capital reduction
  16. Develop 5-year Capex plans
  17. Drive maintenance CI initiatives
  18. Align Capex spend with plant strategy
  19. Scope and approve new projects
  20. Motivate investment opportunities
  21. Ensure ROI on capital projects
  22. Implement early equipment management for readiness
  23. Conduct skills gap analyses and support closure
  24. Develop succession plans for engineering roles
  25. Implement engineering staff retention plans
  26. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports

Qualifications

Key Foundational Competencies

  • Academic: BSc / BEng / BTech in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering; GCC Factory Certification required
  • Experience: 5 years in maintenance systems within FMCG industry
  • Personal Traits: Leadership, self-starter, motivator, strong internal locus of control, stable, influential, assertive, innovative, results-oriented, good judgment, team player
