Job description

The above vacancy is based in Kempton Park.

Overview and Key Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for overseeing the provision of technically sound and commercially viable solutions on CT projects. This will be achieved by ensuring CT projects are designed and executed safely, on time, within budget, and are fit for purpose.

The role will provide technically sound and cost-effective solutions on special projects undertaken by the company, ensuring clear scope and specifications, and that project delivery is safe, timely, and within budget.

The role will oversee the execution of customer installation audit functions by identifying non-compliances on existing and new installations and facilitating their closure in line with company procedures, standards, and relevant regulations.

The role will contribute to developing a critical knowledge base and skills to build a pipeline of technically skilled team members for Merchant Engineering and will champion the establishment of a 'Centre of Excellence' in Merchant Engineering.

Key areas of responsibility
  1. Provide technical knowledge and expertise within the company and industry.
  2. Offer expert technical support to relevant Business Units.
  3. Support business units with product, equipment, and service expertise.
  4. Ensure compliance with corporate, industry, and legal standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  5. Develop technical solutions and provide product know-how.
  6. Respond promptly to after-sales technical issues on CT equipment and resolve them.
  7. Provide maintenance guidance and transfer skills to the engineering team.
  8. Ensure availability of critical spares in all critical installations.
  9. Lead scoping, costing, and execution of special projects following project management best practices.
  10. Support and recommend new business activities, services, and offerings.
  11. Manage compliance audits of customer installations against company and regulatory standards.
  12. Review and evaluate Project Engineers and Technicians for SACGA registration.
  13. Represent the company on industry working groups.
  14. Contribute to a knowledge center and develop technical skills.
  15. Maintain sound cost management and control in line with company policies.
Essential Requirements
  • Matric certificate.
  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Recognized Management Qualification.
  • Project Management Qualification.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with ECSA.
  • Minimum 15 years of related engineering experience in the Gas Industry.
  • At least 10 years in maintenance, projects, installations, or control systems.
  • At least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong expertise in Instrumentation and Control Systems (PLCs, control logic).
  • Solid engineering design capabilities focusing on technical solutions and problem solving.
  • Technical experience with freezing tunnels, oxy-fuel burners, and gas mixing panels.
  • Proven project execution and technical skills within the discipline.
  • Ability to operate successfully in a multi-stakeholder environment.
