About HISP-SA

HISP-SA provides a wide range of digital health solutions that are implemented across several African countries. These include routine public health information systems, disease surveillance systems, and various data management and decision support applications. Our comprehensive digital health expertise helps to improve lives though digital transformation in Africa.

Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overarching leadership of HISP-SA’s Engineering functions across five units: Software, Data, Analytics, Infrastructure and Innovation. Responsibilities include engaging stakeholders, providing strategic direction, retaining top talent, developing HISP’SA’s engineering capabilities, and implementing policy, procedures and controls for these functions to advance the HISP purpose and business strategy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support CEO-led activities to develop and achieve the HISP-SA strategic objectives, including leading the formulation of the Engineering contribution to advance HISP-SA’s goals and achieve digital transformation that advances the health and prosperity of people in Africa
  • Support effective operation of Engineering teams, ensuring good governance and performance monitoring, aligned with Engineering Manager KPAs
  • Collaborate internally and externally to lead the formulation of a product strategy that is highly responsive to emerging technological opportunities and risks
  • Lead HISP-SA’s TechCom structure, ensuring appropriate integration with other HISP-SA structures
  • Lead the development of innovative and transformative Engineering solutions that help to build sustainable business pipelines for advancing HISP-SA’s strategic objectives
  • Manage financial delegations responsibly while behaving ethically and showing good governance in compliance with HISP-SA policy and procedures
  • Actively contribute to HISP-SA financial stability by supporting prudent spending
  • Maintain good governance of all aspects of the Engineering Department, including relevant compliance (such as ISO,POPI and King IV)
  • Improve data-driven responsiveness to user needs with appropriate data science techniques in HISP-SA solutions
  • Lead the Engineering Department to actively develop and maintain strong partnerships that advance HISP-SA strategic goals
  • Build highly person-centred products that optimise users’ digital experiences

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, or relevant alternative (PhD will be an advantage)
  • At least 10 years’ experience managing information technology teams (digital health will be an advantage)
  • At least 5 years’ senior management experience leading information technology (digital health will be an advantage)
  • An ICT leadership profile of in Africa
  • Management qualification will be an advantage
  • Project Management qualification will be an advantage
