QUALIFICATIONS AND TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- Relevant Professional Engineering degree (Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering) or equivalent
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with relevant Professional Institutions.
- Must have a relevant management qualification.
- Good knowledge and understanding of budgeting practices
- Specialized knowledge and understanding of power plant processes and associated plant machinery and equipment
- Possession of Government Certificate of Competency for Factories and Machinery is highly desirable
- PC Skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Outlook, Maximo,
FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to multi-task, manage and control multiple projects
- Must be committed and self-motivated and capable of leading and motivating others in a Team
- Able to work without supervision
- Must constantly demonstrate a "whatever it takes" attitude
- Knowledge & understanding of OHS Act and KPS Plant Safety Regulations & Codes
- Demonstrated effective project management skills
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Minimum of five to eight years managerial experience in coal fired power stations
- Demonstrated experience in engineering and operations of coal fired power stations with special emphasis on successfully integrating modern and original equipment technology
- Previous supervisory experience managing people in an engineering team based environment
- Experience in assessing or improving the remnant life of power plants
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Ensure compliance with statutory inspection and testing requirements
- Ensure that the plant is operated and maintained in accordance with your appointment under the OHS Act
- Assume responsibility for plant wide Safety program including design, implementation, review and compliance
- Take responsibility for investigation and follow up of all accidents and incidents which are reported.
Ensure accidents are reported to Plant Manager and, if necessary, relevant governmental agencies
- Assume overall responsibility for root cause analysis of plant failures, development of solutions and advice to Production and Maintenance Managers
- Provide advice in the development of Operations and Maintenance procedures and strategic spares stocking
- Assume responsibility for all engineering and enhancement projects which fall outside the Maintenance function
- Review and provide final approval of work scope, adjudication of contracts, contract content, and final acceptance in consultation with Maintenance and Production Manager
- Take responsibility for all EPC contracts, act as custodian to ensure compliance, changes and approvals are adequately reviewed and records are kept
- Prioritize projects and deploy resources necessary to achieve timely completion
- Develop working knowledge of the PPA
- Provide advice for the design and implementation of maintenance and operating procedures for all plant and equipment
- Provide advice on necessary operations and maintenance training requirements
- Ensure that environmental permit monitoring and reporting requirements are complied with, and investigate and rectify any deviations from permit limits
- Monitor and improve the plant performance in accordance with design specifications to achieve optimum plant life
- Monitor and improve plant efficiency and provide advice to Maintenance and Production Teams
- Communicate and liaise with Production and Maintenance Manager in respect of defects or unusual occurrences which require further investigation
- Act as custodian of Annual Production and Outage Plan and communicate plan to City Power
- Effectively delegate responsibilities to Team Members and ensure those charged accurately and timeously carry out assigned tasks
- Assist in renewal of Coal Supply contracts
- Provide advice, analysis and reporting service on water chemistry, coal and ash quality
- Ensure maximum and accurate utilization of Maximo system and the IT system to support the entire Engineering function
- Assume overall responsibility for IT system, Maximo system and engineering records and archive
- Coordinate contracting of external engineering resources
- Compile, analyse and provide advice on plant failure statistics
- Assist the Maintenance and Production Managers in developing work scopes for planned and forced outages.
- Maximize generation through accurate planning, task coordination and prioritization of resources
- Provide assistance in the development and implementation of procedures for the operation and testing of the plant and ensure staff are fully conversant in the procedures
- Coordinate with Maintenance and Production Managers in development of Annual Production and Outage Plan
- Ensure coordination, liaison, and daily communication with Maintenance, Commercial and Production Manager to provide a seamless and professional service to all stakeholders
- Provide development plans, counselling, review feedback and identify training needs of Team Members
- Be aware of and communicate the potential impacts of current and proposed legislative requirements that may affect the business
- Constructively participate and contribute to the annual budgeting process
- Assume overall responsibility for cost control and accurate forecasting of engineering expenditure and engineering project budgets
- Provide a written monthly report to Plant Manager addressing past progress, current status and future projects.
