Job description

A leading engineering and technology organisation is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary engineering function supporting process automation, industrial equipment and bespoke engineered solutions .

The successful candidate will provide strategic and technical leadership across engineering design, project engineering, product development and technical support. The role will oversee multidisciplinary engineering activities and ensure that solutions are technically sound, commercially viable, manufacturable, reliable and aligned with client requirements.

This position will work closely with Sales, Production, Service, Procurement, Quality and clients , providing technical leadership from initial application evaluation and conceptual design through to detailed engineering, manufacturing, commissioning and ongoing product improvement.

Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership & Technical Governance Lead, manage and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team. Review and oversee engineering designs to ensure technical accuracy, safety, quality, compliance and fitness for purpose. Provide technical direction on complex, non-standard client requirements and bespoke engineering solutions. Ensure engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical documentation and design reviews are completed to the required standards. Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, cost-effective and aligned with client and operational requirements. Maintain and improve engineering standards, design guidelines, procedures and best practices. Manage the Project Engineering and Mechanical Engineering functions .

Product & Solution Engineering Oversee the development of customised engineering solutions for industrial and process applications. Lead conceptual design, feasibility assessments, technical validation and final design approval. Provide engineering leadership for new product development, product improvements and custom-engineered solutions . Support the standardisation and continuous improvement of products, systems and engineering solutions. Lead modelling, testing and validation of product and design improvements. Ensure new and modified designs are appropriately validated and transferred effectively into Production, Quality and Service.

Engineering Quality & Design Integrity Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable quality, safety, regulatory, ISO and client-specific requirements. Identify and manage technical risks associated with design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and long-term reliability. Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for engineering failures, design issues, rework and non-conformances. Ensure project and operational lessons learnt are incorporated into future designs, procedures, standards and training. Oversee and approve engineering change orders, design releases, FMEAs and related engineering documentation.

Cross-Functional Technical Support Provide senior engineering support to Sales, Production, Service, Procurement and clients . Support technical requirements for tenders, proposals and client applications. Assist Sales with conceptual solutions, technical input, costing and customer requirements. Work closely with Production and Quality to ensure designs are manufacturable, inspectable and aligned with required quality standards. Support Service teams with technical problem-solving and engineering-related customer issues. Support S&OP through engineering capacity planning, prioritisation and communication of technical risks and constraints.

Department Performance & Continuous Improvement Monitor engineering department performance through daily, weekly, monthly and annual reporting. Track key engineering KPIs including: On-time delivery Design quality Rework Design review compliance Engineering support responsiveness Corrective-action closure Lessons-learnt implementation Identify and lead initiatives that improve engineering flow, turnaround times and departmental efficiency. Drive lean engineering and continuous improvement initiatives . Reduce wasted engineering time and improve the transfer of robust engineering processes into Production.

People Management & Development Build a disciplined, accountable and collaborative engineering team. Develop engineering capability through structured skills development and training. Identify internal and external training requirements. Work through engineering team leaders to facilitate performance management and professional development. Promote an environment where technical risks, errors, capacity constraints and improvement opportunities are raised proactively.

Customer & Supplier Interface Engage directly with clients to clarify technical requirements and resolve engineering-related matters. Provide technical input during customer meetings and project discussions. Support technical negotiations with clients, suppliers and subcontractors. Assist with supplier engagement and technical evaluations. Travel locally and cross-border when required to support customers and projects.

Budget & Operational Management Manage and monitor the Engineering Department budget. Align engineering resources and priorities with business requirements. Assist with operational engineering projects when required. Ensure engineering activities support broader business objectives and commercial requirements.

Minimum Requirements BEng / BSc in Mechatronics Engineering preferred. BEng / BSc in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering may be considered where supported by strong multidisciplinary engineering experience. Minimum 10 years' relevant engineering experience . Significant experience in engineering design, project engineering and technical solution development . Proven experience managing or leading an engineering department, engineering office or multidisciplinary engineering team . Experience across mechanical, electrical, electronic and/or mechatronic engineering environments. Strong exposure to industrial, process automation, mining, manufacturing or process measurement environments . Demonstrated project management experience involving technical deliverables, deadlines, budgets, risks and stakeholders. Strong technical-commercial exposure, including tenders, costing, supplier engagement and client technical requirements. Experience working within an ISO-controlled engineering environment . Experience with new product development, customised engineering solutions or bespoke client applications will be advantageous.
