Job summary

A leading mining company in Mpumalanga is seeking an Engineering Foreman with a strong background in maintenance and safety standards. Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as an Artisan in the specific related trade.
  • Good knowledge of mine safety requirements, particularly for contractors.
  • Valid driver’s license and Certificate of Fitness required.

The Role

Lead control and motivate people. Effective cost control in the section. Maintain good maintenance standards. Ensure MHSA, safety and environmental standards and procedures are maintained and compiled with at all times. Enforce and maintain discipline standards in his/her area of responsibility. Supervise and manage subordinates and equipment in designated area of responsibility.

Responsibilities Will Include But Not Limited To

  • Initiate, improve, plan, lead, organize & control all activities of the section
  • Manage the cost according to the budget
  • Improve and enforce good maintenance standards and participate in the review of MMS system
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained to OEM standard
  • Ensure that repairs to equipment are done and returned within the given time allocated
  • Ordering of spares and stock level management
  • Meet the Engineering KPI targets in the section
  • Ensure MHSA, Minerals Act, SHEQ standards and procedures are always maintained and complied with
  • Be able to identify and report High Potential Incidents and High Potential Hazards
  • Maintain good housekeeping of the section, machines, workshop, tearoom, and surrounding areas of responsibility
  • Supervising and managing subordinates, including ensuring that employees are trained, found competent and authorized
  • Conduct and manage the PTO schedule and conduct VFL interactions on a regular basis with employees
  • Control overtime of employees and contractors to be within BCEA limits
  • Co-ordination of equipment and appropriate task delegation within the team
  • Ensure that the required contractors (labour and spares) are available for services, shutdown, LOM and potential break down activities.
  • Conducting inspections and ensuring that the section legal file is kept up to date
  • Managing the Life of Components and the replacements thereof
  • Initiating and driving continuous improvement plans and implementation

Requirements

  • National Certificate N3 or equivalent
  • Recognized Trade Test
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as an Artisan in the specific related trade
  • Sound knowledge of mine safety requirements, particularly for contractors
  • Ability to plan, lead, co-ordinate and control site activities
  • Have sound knowledge of MHSA, safety systems and a high regard for safety, regulations and standards
  • Good organizational, planning, communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • Good report writing skills
  • Must be able to manage contractors efficiently and effectively
  • Be able to cope effectively with pressure in a production environment, be innovative and a self-starter
  • Good organizational, planning, communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Be prepared and able to work stand-by call outs and overtime
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office package, i.e. Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel & MS PowerPoint
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
