The Role

This is a leadership role involving planning, leading, organizing, and controlling activities in the section.

Responsibilities Will Include But Not Limited To
  • Management of shift Electrician’s availability and roster
  • Manage the cost according to the budget
  • Improve and enforce good maintenance standards and facilitate the review of Maintenance Management system
  • Ensure that maintenance and repairs to equipment are completed timeously and to standard
  • Ensure that electrical legal maintenance is coordinated and controlled
  • Meet the Engineering KPI targets in the department
  • Ensure MHSA, Minerals Act, SHEQ standards, and procedures are always maintained and complied with
  • Be able to identify and report high potential incidents and hazards
  • Manage good housekeeping of machines, workshops, substations, and surrounding areas of responsibility
  • Supervise and manage subordinates, including ensuring employees are trained, competent, and authorized
  • Conduct and manage the PTO schedule and regular VFL interactions with employees
  • Control employee and contractor overtime within BCEA limits
  • Coordinate task delegation within the department
  • Ensure availability of required contractors (labour and spares) for services and shutdown work
  • Conduct inspections and keep the legal file up to date
  • Manage the life cycle of components and their replacements
  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement plans and their implementation
  • Facilitate fault finding in the field from 24 V DC to 33 kVA
  • Perform MV switching within the plant and stockyard
  • Construct JRA paperwork for electrical tasks (MV)
  • Certify testing equipment
  • Perform VSD fault finding and configuration on both AC and DC applications
Requirements
  • National Certificate N3 or equivalent
  • Recognized Electrical Trade Test Certificate
  • Sound knowledge of applicable legislation
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as an Electrician
  • Proactive, hardworking, able to work overtime, and available for standby duties
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Possession or ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
Advantageous
  • Previous acting experience as a 9.2 appointment in an electrical role
  • Working knowledge of SAP and Isometrix
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Plant Artisan in the relevant trade
  • SANS 10142 qualification
  • Minimum of 4 years’ MV switching experience
  • Sound knowledge of plant and stockyard electrical equipment
