Job summary

AECOM in South Africa is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to design concrete and steel structures for international projects. You will perform detailed calculations under supervision, model in Revit and potentially assist with BIM tasks, and lead small design projects with resource planning.

Applicants should have 4+ years in structural design, strong knowledge of analysis software, and excellent communication. Hybrid work arrangement is offered.

Qualifications

• BEng required for design of concrete and steel structures.
• 4+ years of experience in design of concrete and steel structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as Tekla Structural Designer, ETABS, Robot, and Idea Statica.
• Revit Structures knowledge is advantageous.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities are essential.
• Ability to lead small design projects and plan resources.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed structural designs and calculations for reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• Assist with Revit modelling when required.
• Take responsibility for design drawings.
• Liaise with other professional team members and contractors.
• Attend planning, design and site meetings, and ad-hoc site inspections.
• Manage less complicated projects.
• Work to ensure safety and integrity in structural documentation.
• Promote compliance with relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities.
• Work will mostly be on international projects.

Job Description

Here is what you will be doing:

• Under the supervision of a Senior Engineer, perform detailed structural designs and calculations for structural systems in commercial and industrial fields for both reinforced concrete and structural steel type structures.
• When required assist with Revit modelling.
• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings.
• Be part of a project team, liaise with other professional team members and contractors.
• Attend planning, design and site meetings, and ad-hoc site inspections.
• Manage less complicated projects
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.
• Promote compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities.
• Work will mostly be on international projects.

Qualifications

Here is what we are looking for:

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in design of concrete and steel structures.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of structural analysis software like Tekla Structural Designer / Etabs / Robot / Idea Statica, etc.
• Revit Structures knowledge will be advantageous.
• Must have experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings.
• Finite element design of concrete structures, specifically flat slab design.
• Some experience in leading small design projects, including resource planning and design time frame estimates.
• B.Eng. Degree
• M.Eng. Degree preferable
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and understand the importance of delivery and client satisfaction
• Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills
• Good commercial awareness / risk management skills
• Good planning and organizational skills
