Job Description

As a Stormwater Engineer in our Water Resources team, you will provide technical and specialist analysis and design support in the area of stormwater drainage, hydrology and flood management for a wide range of infrastructure projects including road, rail and urban development in Africa and around the world.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake:
  • Hydrological analysis of storm rainfall
  • Hydrological and hydraulic analysis of catchment runoff and watercourses
  • Hydraulic modelling and design of stormwater reticulation systems, culverts, scour protection and other flood control structures
  • Sustainable urban drainage system design
  • Preparation of project specifications, bill of quantities and tender documentation
  • Stormwater master planning and flood risk assessments

Minimum requirements
  • Four to seven years experience in a similar role - essential
  • Experience in hydrological studies, hydraulic analysis and design of stormwater drainage infrastructure such as culverts and bridges - advantageous
  • Experience in the design of stormwater reticulation systems, culverts, scour protection, flood control structures, and runoff treatment and management devices – advantageous
  • Knowledge of detailed road drainage design and multi-disciplinary interfaces - advantageous;
  • Experience in the use of drainage analysis and associated design software technology applications (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, PCSWMM, Autocad, Civil 3D, GIS etc.) - highly advantageous
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
  • Minimum of four years' experience in stormwater engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in hydrological and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW)
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
