AECOM is seeking an Engineer - Electrical to be based in South Africa's Enterprise Capabilities office in Durban. This position will support a team locally in South Africa and with Global Teams. Job Description

We are looking to fill the position of Electrical Engineer to join our electrical engineering unit as part of a multi-disciplinary consulting engineering team. The company undertakes large capital projects for various clients across many sectors.

The Engineer is responsible for developing designs through various project stages, coordinating and preparing design documentation as part of the project team. Performs specific and limited portions of broader assignments as an experienced engineer. Guides Candidate Engineers, provides design input to CAD/BIM technicians, and works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and tests.

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approaches to solve new problems encountered.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with the budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
Technical Excellence
  • Develops designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, and project BIM models as per discipline requirements.
  • Works on drawings under the supervision of an experienced Engineer.
  • Assists with design content by applying design and technical knowledge to ensure high-quality outputs within project timelines.
  • Under supervision, performs work following the budget and schedule.
  • Collects and analyzes information from specific discipline and interdisciplinary project BIM models.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving engineering problems.
  • Coordinates with other discipline Engineers for continuity of the design process.
  • Participates in design progress and coordination meetings.
  • Checks and ensures the quality of model production by BIM/CAD teams for accuracy to design instructions.
  • Seeks information and opportunities to contribute, developing efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Contributes by solving problems using experience or theoretical knowledge on atypical assignments.
  • Proficient in BIM Software (Working experience with Revit advantageous).
  • Electrical details include LV and MV systems design and checking, including:

  • Electrical Schematic Diagrams
  • Hazardous Area Classification
  • Diversification and Load factors
  • Electrical Network Design
  • Fault Level Calculations
  • Protection Schemes modelling and settings
  • Power Metering specification and interface to Energy/Building Management Systems
  • Cable Routing Design
  • Cable Sizing Calculations
  • Lighting Calculations, modelling and layouts
  • Earthing Risk Assessments and layouts
  • Specification of Electrical Equipment (Switchgear, Distribution Boards, MCCs, Transformers, UPSs, Cables, Lighting, etc.)
  • Construction Standards of installation specification
Client Relationship Management
  • Begins to participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements and explain/defend work
Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Master of Science or Engineering from an accredited University

  • Registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA
