Placements24 seeks an Energy Storage Systems Integrator for a Polokwane-based role focused on the design, integration, and commissioning of advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) linked to renewable energy projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing, integrating and commissioning energy storage systems or power electronics.
• Strong understanding of battery technologies, inverters, converters and control systems.
• Experience with SCADA systems and data acquisition for energy systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer integrated BESS solutions, including system architecture and control strategies.
• Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control logic for BESS installations.
• Oversee installation and commissioning of BESS, ensuring safety and design compliance.
• Perform site assessments and feasibility studies for BESS projects.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers and site personnel throughout the lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues during integration, testing and operation.
• Ensure compliance with South African electrical and grid codes and standards.

About the Role

This role is essential for the design, implementation, and commissioning of advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) integrated with renewable energy projects. You will work closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of these critical systems. This position requires a deep technical understanding of BESS technologies and a hands‑on approach to project execution within the Polokwane region. Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer integrated solutions for battery energy storage systems (BESS), including system architecture, component selection, and control strategies.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic for BESS installations.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of BESS, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
• Perform site assessments and feasibility studies for BESS projects.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and site personnel throughout the project lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during system integration, testing, and operation.
• Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant South African electrical codes, grid codes, and industry standards for energy storage.
• Develop and deliver technical training to site personnel and clients on BESS operation and maintenance.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in BESS technology, grid integration, and renewable energy trends.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, integration, and commissioning of energy storage systems or power electronics.
• Strong understanding of battery technologies (Lithium-ion, etc.), inverters, converters, and control systems.
• Proficiency in using electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) and simulation tools.
• Knowledge of grid interconnection standards and challenges for distributed energy resources.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a project-driven environment and collaborate with diverse teams.
• Familiarity with renewable energy project development cycles is a plus.
• Experience with SCADA systems and data acquisition for energy systems.
