A leading company in the energy sector is seeking an experienced Energy Consultant to enhance their Remote Management System by helping clients achieve energy efficiency and sustainability goals. The role involves direct customer engagement, analysis of energy usage data, and guiding product improvements while collaborating across the organization to drive measurable savings.
Our client is seeking a seasoned Energy Consultant to join our team, working with our cutting-edge Remote Management System (RMS) platform that integrates Energy Management System (EMS) functionality.
The role focuses on helping customers across industries telecom, utilities, commercial, and industrial drive energy efficiency, reduce costs, and meet ESG objectives through our software solution.
You will work with our product team to ensure industry standards (such as ISO 50001) are embedded into the platform and consult directly with customers during both pre- and post-sales engagements. You’ll use energy data collected by the EMS to develop insights and recommend practical improvements, support implementation, and track impact.
This is a hybrid role requiring a blend of technical, analytical, and consultative skills with real-world application.
Job Purpose:
As a member of the Product Team, the purpose of this role is to help design, enhance, and apply EMS functionality in the RMS platform and guide customers in using it to achieve measurable energy savings and sustainability outcomes.
The role includes advising internal product teams, supporting pre-sales activities, analysing customer data, identifying energy-saving opportunities, and consulting with clients to implement and validate improvements.
Key Result Areas (Major Accountabilities & Responsibilities):
• Define and Evolve EMS Features
Collaborate with the Product and Engineering teams to shape EMS capabilities by translating customer needs and industry best practices (e.g., ISO 50001) into product features such as data analytics, automated alerts, and AI-driven optimisation recommendations.
• Support Pre-Sales Consultations
Work alongside the Sales and Solutions Engineering teams to engage prospective clients. Assist in gathering customer energy goals, presenting demos, and building business cases that demonstrate how the EMS delivers energy savings and supports ESG compliance.
• Lead Customer Onboarding and Enablement
Guide new customers through EMS setup and onboarding. This includes tailoring dashboards, configuring alerts, and aligning system outputs with site-level goals. Provide ongoing support to energy managers, operations teams, and executives.
• Analyse EMS Data to Identify Opportunities
Interpret telemetry and metering data from the RMS/EMS platform to identify inefficiencies, abnormal consumption patterns, and opportunities for savings. Use insights to support both quick wins and long-term optimisation strategies.
• Deliver Actionable Insights and Reports
Develop data-backed reports and business cases that recommend operational changes—such as generator runtime adjustments, HVAC scheduling, or battery optimisation—quantifying their potential energy and cost impact.
• Implement and Validate Control Strategies
Collaborate with customer teams to execute recommended actions. Fine-tune control logic, thresholds, and EMS configurations, then monitor post-implementation performance to verify energy and cost savings.
• Support ESG Reporting and Compliance
Assist clients in leveraging EMS data for regulatory or voluntary reporting (e.g., carbon footprint, sustainability KPIs). Provide guidance on aligning with ESG frameworks and audit-readiness practices.
• Act as an Energy Systems Subject Matter Expert
Provide expertise across multiple systems including grid, solar, batteries, HVAC, compressed air, and lighting. Ensure the platform reflects real-world asset behaviour.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally
Work closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Marketing teams to align EMS strategy across the organisation and ensure consistent external communication.
• Drive Product and Process Improvement
Gather feedback from customer engagements and use cases to recommend platform enhancements. Contribute to internal documentation, playbooks, and best-practice libraries.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Sustainability, or a related field. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.)
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification (or an equivalent credential in energy management) is required.
Working knowledge of ISO 50001 standards for Energy Management Systems and practical experience applying those principles in real-world settings.
Additional credentials such as Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP), LEED Accredited Professional, or ISO 50001 Certified Professional (CP) or Lead Auditor (LA) would be advantageous.
Certifications related to sustainability or carbon accounting (e.g., Carbon Auditing Professional (CAP), or other ESG-related certifications) are an added advantage.
Work Experience:
5+ years of professional experience in energy management, energy efficiency consulting, or a related role.
Experience must include hands-on analysis of energy usage data and implementation of energy-saving initiatives, preferably across sectors such as commercial buildings, industrial facilities, utility operations, and telecommunications infrastructure.
Product/Technical Experience:
Prior involvement in developing or implementing remote monitoring and control solutions, IoT platforms, or enterprise software products.
Experience in a product management or solutions engineering role where you served as a bridge between users and developers is advantageous.
Basic understanding of accessing data through smart meters, IoT devices, and APIs.
Familiarity with database queries, data visualisation tools, or basic scripting for data analysis.
Knowledge of how to use dashboards or create custom analytics within an EMS/BMS.
Skills:
Strong capabilities in energy data analysis, techno-economic modelling, and reporting.
Excellent communication and client-facing consulting ability.
Ability to translate data into real business outcomes (e.g., R/kWh savings, ROI).
Comfortable working in cross-functional teams and with remote monitoring platforms.
