Job Description

Lukhozi Consulting Engineers is seeking an Employer’s Agent’s Representative / Resident Engineer to assist the Employer’s Agent (Engineer) of a major civil engineering contract at Bayside (Table View), Cape Town. The role involves quality assurance, on-site inspection, and ensuring the design is implemented according to specifications. This is a fixed-term position linked to the construction period, estimated to end in October 2026.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a full-time presence on site.
  • Provide construction oversight for design adherence, quality control, and expediting design clarifications.
  • Review contractors’ Quality Control Plans and Construction Method Statements.
  • Handle technical queries and resolutions.
  • Approve construction materials.
  • Keep detailed records of all construction activities, including inspection records, RFIs, design changes, non-conformances, lab results, etc.
  • Conduct independent checks of tests and surveys.
  • Measure quantities and prepare payment certificates.
  • Review as-built information and update drawings.
  • Attend all site meetings, technical or contractual.
  • Communicate regularly with the Employer’s Agent / Engineer and clients.
  • Assist with project safety and environmental matters.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least a National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications, construction methods, and procedures. Effectively communicate and coordinate with the project team. Recognize and relate cost impacts to modifications. Provide input on construction status, schedule, and activities.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS Projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience on-site in major civil engineering construction projects (contract value of R150 million and higher), including bulk earthworks, retaining structures, and reinforced concrete.
  • Good understanding of SANS 1200 and GCC 2015 standards.
  • Effective communicator via personal, phone, writing, and email communication.
