Spitz is seeking a knowledgeable and energetic EMPLOYEE RELATIONS MANAGER to be based at our Head Office in Bryanston.

The successful candidate will provide labour law support to all Spitz's worksites, including head office, retail stores, and the distribution center.

To succeed in this role, you'll need in-depth labour law knowledge, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage a wide range of employee relations matters — including misconduct, poor performance, incapacity (ill-health / injury), and retrenchment processes.

Are you a seasoned employee relations professional with a passion for fostering positive workplace relationships and navigating complex employee relations matters?

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Manager to lead and enhance our employee and industrial relations strategies across our national operations.

Job Specification:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Collaboration: Act as a trusted advisor, providing expert guidance on employee and industrial relations to business units within the AVI Group.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with union officials, shop stewards, and internal stakeholders to promote a harmonious work environment.
  3. Policy Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  4. Dispute Resolution: Lead the resolution of employee grievances, disputes, and disciplinary matters, representing the company in CCMA and Labour Court proceedings as necessary.
  5. Training & Development: Design and deliver training programmes to upskill HR teams and line managers in handling employee relations effectively.
  6. Performance Management: Guide management through performance improvement plans and processes addressing poor performance and incapacity issues.
  7. Change Management: Provide expert advice on retrenchment processes, ensuring compliance and sensitivity during organisational changes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in law or a relevant qualification
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in employee relations within a complex organisational structure.
  • In-depth knowledge of South African labour laws, including the Labour Relations Act and sector-specific determinations.
  • Proven experience in managing union relationships and leading negotiations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
