BDO South Africa has a vacancy for an Employee Benefits Consultant in our Johannesburg offices, reporting to the Director of Employee Benefits.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Performance Areas:
  1. Annual Review of Scheme Benefits
    • Advise clients on appropriate benefits in line with market and clients' industry.
    • Obtain quotes from the marketplace and conduct full costing and benefit analysis.
    • Audit current benefits specific to the industry, including costs.
  2. Processing of Scheme
    • Installations and amendments to benefits within required Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
    • Maintain Fund and Risk Rules.
    • Ensure that risk and retirement data align with rules.
    • Prepare member communication.
    • Submit documentation to insurers.
  3. Board of Management Meetings
    • Take, type, and send minutes to clients.
    • Set annual dates for Board meetings with clients and participants.
    • Action all items from minutes.
    • Provide Board training as required.
    • Monitor and ensure risk benefits are structured correctly.
    • Communicate benefit changes to members.
  4. Investments
    • Monitor investment performance against benchmarks and costs.
    • Ensure investment strategy is implemented as per Board instructions.
    • Process switch forms correctly.
  5. Member Communication
    • Ensure accuracy of member booklets and benefit statements.
    • Draft presentations and newsletters.
  6. Daily Client Maintenance / Service
    • Issue standard documents timely.
    • Prepare and manage reports and documents.
    • Follow up on queries and resolve client, member, and pensioner issues.
    • Provide advice on employee benefits, risk, governance, compliance, investments, legislation, and changes affecting benefit programs.
  7. Best Practice
    • Maintain performance standards, including reconciliations, timekeeping, and attendance.
    • Ensure task accuracy and completeness within SLAs.
    • Engage professionally with clients verbally and in writing.
    • Perform ad-hoc tasks to meet client commitments.
    • Stay updated on industry innovations and technologies.
    • Contribute to team efficiency and spirit.
    • Develop knowledge of the employee benefits industry and investments.
    • Familiarize with relevant legislation (e.g., Pension Funds Act, Taxation, FAIS Act).
