Electronics Rework Technician - Repair & Refurbish PCBs

Job summary

Altron is seeking a Rework Technician based in Gauteng to diagnose, repair and rework defective electronic and mechanical assemblies. You will perform soldering, component replacement and documentation of all rework activities following IPC standards and company SOPs.

The role requires 1–3 years’ hands-on experience with laptops/desktops, a technical qualification in Electronics/Mechatronics, and a proactive approach to quality control in a manufacturing or repair environment.

Qualifications

• Matric / Grade 12.
• A+ and desktop OEM qualifications beneficial
• Technical certification or diploma in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 1–3 years’ experience in laptop and desktop diagnosing and assembly, repair, or similar technical role.
• IPC A 610 or IPC 7711/7721 certification.
• Experience in component level troubleshooting (SMD & through hole).
• Experience in manufacturing, repair centres, or electronics refurbishment environments

Responsibilities

• Rework and repair electronic assemblies and units.
• Inspect and troubleshoot defective products to find root causes.
• Perform soldering and component repair (IPC A610 / IPC 7711/7721).
• Replace faulty components and assemblies while ensuring quality.
• Diagnose faults on desktops and laptops.
• Document all rework in logs and systems.
• Coordinate feedback to QA and Manufacturing.
• Follow SOPs and quality guidelines.
• Assist in root-cause analysis for recurring failures.
• Conduct functional testing on repaired units.
