Job description

Job Title: Electrician – Solar PV
Location: De Aar, (Preference will be given to local candidates or those residing in nearby surrounding areas)
Job Type: Long Term Contract: 12 – 24 months
Reports To: Site / Project Manager


Job Overview:

We are looking for a Certified and Semi-skilled Electrician with experience or a keen interest in the renewable energy sector, particularly solar PV installations. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems associated with solar energy solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects that contribute to a sustainable energy future in South Africa.

Working Conditions:
  • 44 hours normal time per week.
  • Weekend work will be required.
  • Long term contract: 12 – 24 months.
  • Outdoor and rooftop work in varying weather conditions.
  • Some overtime and weekend work will be required, depending on project timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, test, and commission solar PV systems (commercial, and light industrial).
  • Conduct AC and DC electrical wiring, inverter installations, and battery storage integration.
  • Perform maintenance and fault-finding on existing solar PV systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with SANS 10142-1 and other relevant codes and regulations.
  • Assist with site assessments and prepare electrical system layouts based on technical drawings.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver projects on time.
  • Complete documentation, including COCs (Certificates of Compliance), test reports, and job cards.
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in proper working order.
  • Promote and enforce health and safety standards on all job sites.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Grade 12 (Matric) preferred but not essential.
  • Electrical Qualification – Red Seal certified / Single phase and installation electrician certification.
  • Valid Wireman’s License or working toward one (preferred).
  • Solar PV Installation Experience (minimum 2 years preferred).
  • Knowledge of battery storage systems, inverters, and hybrid/backup systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport. (preferred)
  • Registration with the Department of Labour as an Installation Electrician or Master Installation Electrician (advantageous).
Key Competencies:
  • Solid understanding of Solar Installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and PV system designs.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to work independently.
  • High attention to detail with a strong safety orientation.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites within the Northern Cape and beyond.
