Job summary

The President Hotel in Cape Town seeks a skilled Electrician to perform electrical inspections, maintenance and repairs throughout the hotel, ensuring safety and reliability of systems. The role requires a Red Seal/Trade Test and 5+ years of experience in similar settings.

You will diagnose faults, maintain distribution boards and lighting, and carry out planned maintenance, while following health and safety guidelines and hotel procedures.

Qualifications

• Recognised Electrician Trade Test or Red Seal is essential.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified Electrician.
• Experience in maintenance within hotel, hospital or large property is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical inspections, maintenance, fault-finding and repairs across the hotel.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical breakdowns promptly and safely.
• Maintain distribution boards, lighting, circuits, sockets and equipment.
• Complete planned and preventative maintenance to minimise disruption.
• Respond to guest-room and operational electrical faults professionally.
• Conduct electrical testing and documentation within your scope.
• Ensure compliance with SANS standards, hotel procedures and safety.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Recognised Electrician Trade Test / Red Seal certification is essential and non-negotiable.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified Electrician.
• Maintenance experience within a hotel, hospitality establishment, hospital, retail centre or large commercial property is highly advantageous.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience maintaining distribution boards, lighting, circuits, sockets, appliances and electrical equipment.
• Strong knowledge of SANS standards and electrical safety requirements.
• Experience conducting planned and preventative maintenance.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out and safe electrical working procedures.
• Experience using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to respond effectively to breakdowns and urgent maintenance requirements.
• Availability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and emergency call-outs.
• Valid South African ID.
• Updated CV clearly showing Red Seal / Trade Test details and contactable references.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responding to guest-room and operational electrical faults professionally and efficiently.
• Conducting electrical testing and completing related documentation within your qualifications and authorised scope.
• Ensuring work complies with applicable SANS standards, hotel procedures and health and safety requirements.
• Identifying potential faults and electrical risks before equipment failure occurs.
• Supporting junior technicians and apprentices with technical guidance and safe working practices.
• Completing job cards and maintenance records accurately.
