Job Specification: Electrician
Job Purpose
To safely install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment. The Electrician is responsible for ensuring all electrical work is completed efficiently, safely, and in line with electrical regulations, health and safety requirements, and company standards. This role helps maintain reliable operations, reduce risks, and support overall business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Maintenance
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, wiring, and equipment across the facility
- Conduct routine inspections of electrical systems to identify wear, faults, or potential hazards
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on all electrically operated machinery and equipment
- Maintain distribution boards, portable and fixed lighting, and electrical extension systems
Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults efficiently to minimize downtime
- Repair or replace faulty wiring, components, and equipment
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency electrical issues
Equipment-Specific Duties
- Maintain and repair electrical components on Brokk machines, brick cutters, MIG and other welding machines, stud welders, angle grinders, jackhammers, and grinding/cutting/drilling power tools
- Service and troubleshoot pan mixers, vibrating tables, and electrical/low-heat/high-heat furnaces
- Maintain and support CNC router and CNC wire cutter electrical systems
- Ensure all portable power tools and equipment are electrically safe and compliant
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant electrical regulations and standards (e.g. SANS 10142)
- Adhere to company health and safety procedures and site-specific safety protocols
- Complete and maintain accurate records: test certificates, inspection reports, job cards, and maintenance logs
- Identify and report electrical risks or non-compliance issues
- Ensure correct use and maintenance of PPE
General
- Liaise with other trades and departments to coordinate work schedules
- Manage and account for tools, equipment, and spare parts
- Provide input on equipment upgrades, replacements, or efficiency improvements
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Electrician with a relevant Trade Test certificate
- Valid Wireman's License
- Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience
- Sound knowledge of electrical regulations and health and safety requirements (SANS 10142 / OHS Act)
- Experience working with industrial equipment and power tools (as listed above advantageous)
