Job summary

Empact Group is seeking an experienced Electrician to join our team in South Africa. The role covers installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of electrical infrastructure, plant and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operations.

You will work across electrical and related mechanical systems, read drawings, assemble and wire control panels, and support MV/LV switching, generator and UPS maintenance, with SAP PM documentation and continuous improvement of maintenance

Qualifications

  • N4–N6 Electrical Engineering qualification required.
  • Electrical Trade Test – Section 26D or Section 13.
  • MV and Three-Phase Wireman licences required.
  • Experience in electrical maintenance within facilities, laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure is advantageous.
  • Experience with generators, UPS, Battery management and HVAC systems advantageous; SAP PM knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and test electrical infrastructure, plant, and equipment.
  • Perform planned, preventative, and predictive maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Interpret drawings, install/maintain control panels and support new installations.
  • Support MV/LV switching and isolation per safety procedures.
  • Provide electrical support to laboratory facilities and critical infrastructure.
  • Capture maintenance data in SAP PM and ensure timely work orders.

Job description

Main Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, fault‑finding and repair of the site’s electrical infrastructure, plant, and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The role will support the availability and reliability of critical infrastructure while minimising equipment downtime and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and service delivery. The incumbent will work across a range of electrical and associated mechanical systems, utilising specialised tools, equipment and technical techniques to assemble, dismantle, align, calibrate, and maintain machinery and components in accordance with required operational standards. Previous experience within laboratory, facilities management, engineering, or other critical infrastructure environments will be advantageous. The Electrician will also contribute to the continuous improvement and effectiveness of the department’s maintenance management system, including SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM), by ensuring accurate work execution, effective maintenance planning, comprehensive documentation, and timely feedback on completed maintenance activities.

Education, Qualifications and Experience Required
  • N4–N6 Electrical Engineering qualification.
  • Electrical Trade Test – Section 26D or Section 13.
  • Valid licence to operate on Medium Voltage (MV) networks.
  • Valid Three-Phase Wireman’s Licence.
  • Licensed and registered with the Department of Employment and Labour, where applicable.
  • Experience in electrical maintenance within a facilities, laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure environment will be advantageous.
  • Experience in generator maintenance will be advantageous.
  • Experience in UPS maintenance will be advantageous.
  • Exposure to Battery Management Systems (BMS) will be advantageous.
  • Exposure to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of SAP PM will be advantageous.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Electrical Maintenance & Infrastructure
  • Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and test electrical infrastructure, plant, and equipment to ensure safe, reliable and continuous operation.
  • Perform planned, preventative, and predictive maintenance on electrical and associated infrastructure systems.
  • Monitor and maintain commercial and critical site infrastructure to optimise equipment availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Conduct regular inspections and operational walk-throughs of electrical and mechanical systems to identify potential failures, defects, and maintenance requirements.
  • Conduct electrical fault‑finding, diagnostics and root‑cause analysis on critical infrastructure and equipment.
  • Interpret and work from electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support installations, maintenance, and fault‑finding activities.
  • Assemble, wire, modify and maintain electrical control panels in accordance with design specifications and applicable standards.
  • Support the installation, testing and commissioning of new electrical plant, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Perform switching, isolation and restoration of Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) equipment in accordance with approved procedures and safety requirements.
  • Support the maintenance of generators, UPS systems, battery systems, and HVAC‑related infrastructure where required.
  • Monitor heating and cooling systems to ensure continued operation and the maintenance of required environmental and equipment temperature conditions.
Laboratory & Critical Infrastructure Support
  • Provide technical electrical support to laboratory facilities, including system configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault resolution.
  • Ensure electrical infrastructure supporting laboratory operations remains safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.
  • Monitor critical infrastructure and associated systems to identify potential operational risks and prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Support the continuous and efficient operation of plant, equipment, and associated infrastructure.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Comply with all applicable health, safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
  • Conduct and participate in risk assessments for electrical and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure high‑risk electrical work is performed only by appropriately authorised, competent and permitted personnel.
  • Apply approved electrical isolation, lockout/tagout, switching and safe‑work procedures.
  • Report unsafe conditions, electrical defects, incidents, and potential risks promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, faults, repairs and corrective actions for compliance and reporting purposes.
Client & Service Delivery
  • Comply with established working procedures, service standards, and maintenance requirements to ensure all applicable Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Master Service Agreements (MSAs) are achieved.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to client electrical service requests and technical queries.
  • Investigate and resolve electrical faults efficiently to minimise operational disruption and downtime.
  • Communicate maintenance requirements, technical findings, risks, and corrective actions clearly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor relevant customer network servers, storage systems and supporting infrastructure where required, escalating technical issues to the appropriate specialist teams.
Maintenance Systems & Reporting
  • Capture and maintain accurate maintenance information within SAP PM and other applicable maintenance systems.
  • Ensure maintenance work orders are accurately completed, updated, and closed within required timeframes.
  • Provide timely feedback on completed work, outstanding defects, parts requirements, and follow‑up maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical inspections, repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment condition.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective or preventative measures to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance processes, systems, and equipment reliability.
