Desco Electronic Recyclers - Electrician Position

Desco Electronic Recyclers is seeking an experienced Electrician to maintain all machine components and equipment, ensuring optimal efficiency of the production and recycling processes.

Responsibilities

1. Prioritize breakdown repairs in coordination with the production supervisor, responding to job cards or verbal requests based on urgency.
2. Address electrical malfunctions promptly, following the priority list established with the supervisor.
3. Service electrical components of machines and equipment according to the planned maintenance schedule.
4. Inspect sub-stations, transformers, and machines daily for faults, and coordinate repairs with the superintendent.
5. Construct or modify circuitry as requested by the engineering manager.
6. Calibrate machine temperature controllers upon request.
7. Isolate equipment electrically to facilitate repairs.
8. Assist with mechanical issues as directed by the Engineering Manager.
9. Advise production staff on the functions and proper operation of equipment.
10. Repair and replace batch-off bars as needed.
11. Service machinery per the maintenance schedule and check the extraction unit.
12. Maintain high standards of housekeeping.
13. Repair switches, starters, VFDs, soft starters, process controllers, and lighting systems.
14. Operate various gauges and tools, including voltmeters, amp meters, ohmmeters, circuit tracers, and thermal imaging cameras.

Additional Information

This role requires reading electrical diagrams, schematics, and manuals to ensure accuracy and compliance. The electrician may be required to perform other departmental duties as necessary. This position works under supervision but also requires initiative and good communication skills to maintain relationships across departments, with customers, and visitors.

Qualifications & Experience

• Matric / NQF Level 3
• Trade Certificate in electricity
• Minimum 10 years' experience in commercial and industrial electrical work
• Own tools are required

Additional Requirements

• Ability to work outside normal hours, including shifts and standby
• Willingness to work overtime for breakdowns and scheduled maintenance
