Job summary

SA Steelworks in Cape Town is seeking a Red Seal Electrician to support the Electrical Department at the Airport Industria branch. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and a valid driver’s license with own transport.

You will carry out maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical systems, coordinate with other staff, and ensure compliance with OHSA and company policies while supporting 24/7 production needs.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Trade Tested Electrician is required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Own transport and valid driver’s license required.
• Able to work overtime and standby as needed.
• Must work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance on induction furnaces.
• Building of and installing new electrical systems.
• Maintaining and repairing installed electrical systems.
• Connection of motors and control switchgear.
• Maintaining service records of electrical equipment.
• Liaising with other departmental staff, supervisors and managers.
• Using C-Works to plan, track and record tasks.
• Ensuring that all work will comply with OHSA regulations and company policies.
• Request required materials for daily tasks from the Electrical Manager.
• Understand 24/7 operational needs and support production goals.
• Point to point IO checks on PLCs.
• Point to point IO checks on control and power systems.
• Participate in the RCM program.
• Participate in the RCA program.
• Read and use electrical diagrams.
• Ensure work standards are achieved.
• Ensure efficient use of resources.

The Group has an Electrician position available at SA Steelworks. The successful candidate will provide support to the Electrical Department and will be situated at our Branch in Airport Industria, Cape Town. The successful candidate will report to the Electrical Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintenance on Induction Furnaces
• Building of and installing new electrical systems
• Maintaining and repairing installed electrical systems
• Connection of motors and control switchgear
• Maintaining service records of electrical equipment
• Liaising with other departmental staff, supervisors and managers

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Relevant tertiary qualification Red Seal Trade Tested Electrician
• 5+ years of relevant working experience
• Able to work in a pressurized and demanding environment
• Must have your own reliable transport
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Good communication skills
• Work overtime and standby as required by the process demands
• Ability to perform within a team
