Job summary

The role requires trade qualification, ammonia refrigeration registration, and 3–5 years poultry industry experience; shifts, standby, and overtime are expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Trade Test Certificate is required for the electrician role.
• Category B ammonia refrigeration registration is essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain poultry processing machinery and equipment.
• Service industrial ammonia refrigeration plant and related systems.

Job description

The successful candidate will support the Supervisor by responding to and maintaining day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, correct servicing of machinery system accuracy, and housekeeping.

• Trade Test Certificate.
• Category B registration on ammonia refrigeration.
• Minimum 3–5 years poultry industry experience
• Willingness to work shifts and standby.
• Able to work overtime when needed /required.
• Strong knowledge of industrial electrical compliance
• Good knowledge of facility layout.
• Possess specialized knowledge of industrial refrigeration and ammonia systems.
• Strong knowledge of rendering plant (boilers and cookers)

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain poultry processing machinery.
• Service industrial ammonia refrigeration plant.
• Troubleshoot automated processing equipment.
• Respond to urgent breakdown repairs.
• Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations.
• Conduct routine electrical inspections.
• Food processing hygiene standard as contained in the food safety and quality system.
• Align and balance new equipment after installation.
• Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and machinery, and equipment.
• Diagnose electrical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, and check parts catalogues as necessary.
• Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
• Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
• Maintain and repair all electrical equipment on site and off site.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, buildings electrical systems operate efficiently.
• Plan and lay out repair work using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams.
• Inspect drives, motors, and belts and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
• Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, callipers, micrometres, and other measuring instruments.
• Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogues and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms.
• Drive HACCP together with foreman or manager.
• Daily/weekly inspections in different areas.
• Daily feedback to the electrical foreman/manager
• Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
• Monitor reservoir water levels.
• Monitor and repair boreholes on site.
• Other relevant duties assigned.

• Ability to utilize DMS.
• Responsible to operate the machine according to SOPs and Health and safety procedures.
• Ensure effective communication within the department.
• Ensure that annual animal welfare awareness training is attended.
